The companion to this is what the President and ruling party do to make sure its supporters don't look too close (or at all) to what you've highlighted here. The latest example came to my In Box from my representative, the worst representative in Congress among many bad ones, Rep. Brandon Gill. He's introduced a bill that would close off the exception in naturalization rules that allows certain individuals to become citizens without being able to speak English.
This is of course not a real issue. How many of us went to school with kids whose parents didn't speak English (or didn't speak it well enough to pass a test)? I had friends whose parents spoke Spanish, Vietnamese, Russian, among other languages. It just didn't matter. But as long as MAGA gets riled up, cheering such inane proposals (Gill is also behind the effort to ban Sharia law), they won't look at the ways in which they're really being hurt.
Thanks for sharing this, Lori. I don't think a lot of people know this is happening. I also went to schools where many of the kids didn't speak English very well or at all. Great human beings just coming from different family circumstances.

This makes war profiting seem like a forever war anywhere is the gift that keeps on giving to these companies. Just reading this is alarming enough to keep people from sleeping. Thank for putting this together so clearly but the picture it paints is overwhelming.
