Politicians lying to their constituents, sadly, has been a staple of our democracies for quite some time.
I suspect most of his MAGAt supporters are quite well aware that he's lying. They accept it for the theatrics of it all. People eating dogs and cats. Democrats drinking baby blood. Kids getting surgeries without anyone being in charge.
This is the political manifestation of the tabloid culture. Of course we know everything in those rags is ridiculous, but (they) buy them anyway.
But there is another more insidious factor to consider. tRump has spent the past 10 years appealing to and cultivating the ultra-Christian wingnuts, who already have built-in wiring for eating, and regurgitating, exactly what they're fed. Given they've elevated him to some kind of holy status, every word he utters must therefore be truth. That contingent honestly believes his shit, and the remainder go along for the ride because it rattles the cages of those they want to rattle, namely ours.
So now, when we have the intersection of political lying, hero/holy man worship and the tabloid culture, it's where it all starts to go off the rails.
But you know who's to blame? Collectively, us: for allowing politicians to lie bald-faced for way too long. Initially it was written off as "all politicians lie", which naturally gave them permission to ramp up the strategy. Lying was proven to magically increase popularity. It's a symbiotic relationship.
tRump, like everything he does, takes something and injects it with an overdose of steroids. So here we are.
This lack of accountability needs to end. The genie is out of the bottle and clearly it's beyond dangerous. New politicians must be punished for lying: not several years later with a new election, but during office. Clear parameters need to be set in terms of what constitutes a lie versus truth stretching or misleading or biased facts.
As a teacher I couldn't even give a student a cough drop. There is no way a teacher could permit a child to have a sex change surgery. Everything this man spews is lies and hatred. I'm always stunned by how many people believe his crap, but especially this one. It's ridiculous.
