Since September, more than twenty people have been shot during ICE operations. Nearly every shooting involved someone inside a vehicle. Several ended in fatal shootings.
The dangerously reckless and perfunctory way that ICE goes about its business belies its law enforcement identity. A couple of dozen incidents can't be put down to incompetence. If reports are correct, there is no concern for competence - their training program has been all but eliminated. Perhaps the brutality is itself the training? If one were pessimistic it might look like a regime guard paramilitary force was being established - one habituated to shooting first and impunity. Not sure our court system is up to changing that.
Had these imbeciles worked within the law & simply asked for identification to verify identity, at least 2 people would still be alive.
But oh no, they had to act like a bunch of little boy thugs & start ramming cars & shooting at the people in those cars!
The whole lot of the Gestapo needs to be arrested for aggravated assault & MURDER! They have no rights to do this to people!!
Also, I would like to remind everyone that we had a bipartisan bill that was before the Senate & what did TRUMP & the REPUBLICANS do?? They threw it out, once again for the people in the back…THEY THREW IT OUT!
This bill would have taken care a lot of issues with immigration! And what’s going on now would not be going on & the cost would have been lees!
We could have handled this without terrorizing neighborhoods, taking away CHILDREN from their parents, having women & girls raped by the GESTAPO, by having men killed in the detention centers (CONCENTRATION CAMPS ), & we wouldn’t have had all of this chaos!
Trump wanted the chaos do it would give him something to run on, because heaven forbid if there isn’t enough stuff to fix from his first term!!

Strong piece, and the point I’d underline is one the essay already gestures at but that deserves to stand on its own: the body-camera gap isn’t a limitation, it’s a choice, and it’s a choice DHS is free to reverse tomorrow. What makes it worth separating from the shootings themselves is that it’s indifferent to guilt — if the agents’ account holds up, cameras prove it and end the argument in an afternoon; if it doesn’t, cameras are the only thing that ever would. An agency confident in its own conduct doesn’t usually prefer the version of events where no one can check it. Confidence and secrecy are not usually found in the same policy.
These fatal shootings should now be called Kavanaugh Killings, after Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, who lied his way onto the court and then authored the decision that allows ICE to make stops based on nothing more than skin color (already referred to as Kavanaugh Stops).
When the federal government insists on cooperation by state and local law enforcement officers, state and local officials should demand that federal officers should do the same. Cooperation is not, and never has been a one-way street; yet that is what is happening now every time the ICE terrorists run rampant through city streets.
Another point is that these individuals should take off the masks and be visible to everyone; if they are as truly legitimate as they pretend (as opposed to most likely being January 6 terrorists).
The state can still charge the party involved,it occurred in their jurisdiction.There is no federal law that gives law enforcement absolute immunity,only qualified immunity.In their performance of their duties,just like the President.They can’t do whatever they want.One day they’re going to run into bigger guns.
If you have law enforcement wearing maks having maybe an insignia on their back, driving unmarked cars you really can't know if they are bandits or law enforcement.
Immigration controversy in world and US history is like Bob Dylan’s tour- it’s Never Ending. Re-watch Gangs of New York and you’ll see all the controversy about Irish immigration in the 1860s. And see those poor buggers getting gang planked into the Union Army. Difficult economic periods enflame the controversy. IMO the shit going down now is the unintended consequence of identity politics and a wide open southern border. And I have a bit more experience with our southern border than the average American - I worked in maquiladoras in Reynosa and Matamoros for three years in the 1980s, crossing the border back & forth every workday. It didn’t use to be an open slather of unimpeded crossing. But I also have immense empathy for the folks who undergo incredible hardships to cross that border in search of a better life. The balance is found in a sensible legal framework - neither an open slather nor ICE cruelty. Sure hope our next president and congress see it that way.
ICE is conducting despicable acts that I would have not thought possible in the U.S. In addition to shootings, persons are being kidnapped and disappearing or locked away and untraceable--the things one used to read about third world countries doing, but it's here and now. ICE and those in control are ending and upending lives without a care. We must stop this inhumane and horrific behavior. I can't find a link to share the story, but if you can gain access, I recommend The New Yorker's article: "Inside ICE’s Largest Detention Center: On a military base in West Texas, where the government has built a sprawling tent complex to hold thousands of immigrants, deprivation and dire conditions are part of the design."
