Based upon the people I talked to in Washington, D.C., and around the world, based upon the independent research my team and I have done, and based upon what I'm watching, hearing, and reading on a daily basis, we will take back majority control in Congress in the midterms and start getting things moving in the right direction. Hang in there, everything's going to be okay.
Look as unpleasant as this may be we the American people must come to the realization that Donald Trump is a dictator. In speaking with people whom voted for Trump a handful are okay with this. We must remember this and not expect any support or cooperation from these folks, many of whom are our neighbors. Trump has already demonstrated disregard for important elements of our society like freedom of speech. Trump as already labeled people who do not support him as traitors. He disregards court orders. He disregards Congress unless it agrees with him. He has created his own well paid police force at taxpayer expense. He has had people like former AG Bondi redefine domestic terrorism so broadly that it can serve as a net to arrest and silence any opposition. He creates serious conflicts at home and abroad. It is irrelevant whether he is demented, has severe personality disorders, or is simply misguided. We do not wait until a criminal confesses before he is arrested. Trump, his cabinet, and many Republican members of Congress obviously support him. Regardless of what anybody says or does he will not leave office until we the people forcibly remove him and then through procedural methods rapidly remove his entire cabinet. This will not be pretty but must be done. History has shown us that dictators hang onto power until their bitter end,
The only realization that needs to happen is for Trump and MAGA Republicans in Congress to understand that they work for us and not the other way around. The only realization that needs to happen is for Trump enablers in power to pull their heads out of their asses and start doing the job they're required to do, both premised around the oath of office they've taken and their obligation to the Constitution. After the November midterm elections, a new majority in Congress will use the power of a subpoena, oversight, power of the purse, and separation of powers to start making this happen. At the same time, a new majority can start implementing policies that benefit all states, not just red states. We got this.
It's an old playbook, but unfortunately there are still those that fall for it.
I have a suggestion: can we all do something when we go to vote, assuming we do so at the polls instead of by mail?
Can we wear plain blue shirts or blouses when we go to vote?

I'm sure that there might be some problem with wearing candidate clothing in the poll booth (I know that some folks got in trouble in Texas for wearing political attire when they cast their ballot), but it would send a powerful message to have millions of voters show up at the midterms in blue!

What the U.S. could do to improve on their system is to assign SSN’s to every child who fits our citizenship law & when they turn 18 years old they are automatically registered to vote.

The argument that the VRA is an unnecessary regulation because the United States has become a “post racial” society is based, in large part, on the election of Obama.
The fact that the states that have adopted new voter laws (invariably denying minority voters their fundamental right to cast a meaningful ballot) are the self-same states of the Confederacy that suppressed the right to vote beginning with reconstruction & ending in 1965.
The conduct of the majority in these states denies equal protection to minorities in the most fundamental act of any democracy - the right to vote.
I think we could mess up the system with more voters - and I think we might generate more enlightened voters. I don't know which but it’s probably better than what we have: Trump 2X!

Maybe, but do keep in mind that most of what you see me talking about is intended to educate and inform, not those who have already gotten it, but others who are on the fence or just too busy to appreciate the daily breaking news. By the way, I'm not trying to convert any far-right-wing MAGA Republicans. I used to be able to find some level of admiration and respect for at least a handful of GOP representatives and senators. Today, I can find exactly one, Don Bacon from Nebraska, and he is retiring. The whole situation in Maine (where i do not have a vote) is reflective of how hard the democrats are trying to tarnish the silver platter they have been handed. It is imperative that the balance of power in the House is flipped in dramatic fashion. Unfortunately, every Graham Platner damages the chances of doing the same in the Senate. Susan Collins is not a viable candidate for the people of Maine.
I understand where you are coming from, Lawrence. Take a step back and consider the following. Whatever speed bumps Democrats have to deal with right now, none of this would be happening if Republicans were doing their jobs. They dropped the ball. They're bending the knee. They're kissing the ring. They're putting their own personal power and influence above the best interest of all Americans. They are the problem. We need to stay focused on understanding that, appreciating that, and, when problems come up, dealing with that issue and reality in a positive and constructive fashion so that we can take back majority control in Congress in this year's midterms. There's a reason. Americans are being played. Yes, the story in Maine is something we need to deal with, but there are so many other stories that could influence so many other voters in so many other ways that will completely change the power in Congress that nobody's talking about. New sound bytes will result in new votes. We need to make that happen.
It is election year this year in Aotearoa New Zealand. The economy is doing poorly. Unemployment is rising. The Brain Drain to Australia, Singapore, SE Asia and Europe is increasing. The main right-wing party is beginning to call for tougher sentencing and a US-style three-strikes policy in an attempt to 'look tough' on crime.
Forget that studies show that tougher sentencing does little to reduce the crime rate. The crime rate or immigration numbers or real factors are not the aim. FEAR IS. Divide the populace even further with a race, creed and gender-based narrative...nothing specific but simply 'other' and you will win part of the population always.
If people are scared, they will vote a certain way. If you make people scared, they will trade freedoms for safety.
Benjamin Franklin was 100% correct. "Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety." Words that ring just as true today as they did in the mid-1700's.
