I'm not a business owner or CEO, but I'm a consumer worried about all of the issues you mentioned in this piece. We're already paying for this stupid, nonsensical war...on top of these effing tariffs. When it all comes crashing down, and it will, you're right...we will pay for that, too. Republicans and Trump think they know what's best for this country financially because they're against taxes. So they campaign hard on taxes, get elected, call themselves "hawks", which they're not, then eff everything up. Each time a republican is president, a democratic president gets elected, and has to clean up their mess..🙄 In any case, healthy debate seems to have disappeared. MAGATS are so tribal, they get angry if you say something against their destructive policies. I'm doing what I can as a citizen. I'm writing my senator (unfortunately, a Trump sycophant), and looking up businesses and products that are supported by the democratic party when I need to shop. I avoid republican businesses and products, as much as possible. Thank you, Mitch...and keep up the fight!
This is refreshing. I talk politics on LinkedIn regularly as well, because as you say…pretending that business and politics can be separated is delusional. I understand that some people are truly not safe to speak politics on Linkedin but many many people are. They have enough status and power and visibility and financial security and relative safety but they still continue to play it safe and protect their comfort. It’s not OK. I’m incredibly disappointed at the silence of so many Americans. Thank you for being vocal and for challenging the very-outdated conventional wisdom to “not talk politics.” I’m right there with you.
Mitch, your piece is a must read by every CEO and business owner in this country. This Administration is bad for business on so many levels and in so many ways and yet business leaders act as if by keeping their heads down, they'll be able to ride it out. But that's incredibly naive, as however the future plays out their "neutrality" is going to hurt them: If this November and November '28 turn out the way we hope, they'll find themselves on the losing side of history, and employees and customers will remind them of that. If, however, the MAGA era continues, our democracy will be dead, free and fair market capitalism will have been replaced by fascist and oligarchic control (as in Russia), and any semblance of widespread economic prosperity will come to an end.
Thank you, Mitch. As you know, I've moved from Orange County California to APOLLO Beach Florida on the gulf coast and it's a different culture since I moved here. I've been vocal on Facebook and have even had a couple people told me to go back to California. Lately however, I have met more of my tribe who think like you and I do. They will click an occasional like on my posts but they are silent because they are afraid. They are afraid to be ostracized by Maga. I live in a very vibrant community where we have numerous Facebook pages. The Maga people are quite aggressive and my friends who have the same concerns that you and I do fear the backlash. I say feel the fear and do it anyway. I am compelled to speak up because I feel so strongly and care so much about our beautiful country as I know you do too. Thank you for this piece which I am sending to those friends who need to hear this from someone else beside me.💋♥️
I feel your pain, Mari. I live in Texas, though I'm at least in the DFW area where it's a "mixed" environment. While I'd much prefer living in Califoria (as Mitch knows quite well!) At least living in Texas I can be part of the effort to throw out of office the MAGA GOP. I hope you can do the same in Florida!
