It's particularly concerning that these masked, swarming "officers" are arresting folks for being out of status in terms of immigration. I'm not a lawyer, but my understanding (after having spent 15 years in a variety of immigration statuses) is that status issues are civil offenses, not criminal offenses. That's why all that's needed is an administrative warrant (where the bar is lower) and court proceeding are held in from of administrative law judges.
If I saw this happen on the street (a half dozen people dressed in SWAT attire and masks grabbing someone and forcing them into a car), I think I'd call 911. Without anything "police-like", whose to know who these ruffians are.
I'm actually surprised that gangs haven't yet been formed to do fake-ICE grabs to shake down immigrant-looking people.
Isn’t it obvious? To avoid creating a body of direct evidence personally linking them to these extrajudicial kidnappings and expediting unidentified, & potentially innocent people to dangerous prisons outside the jurisdiction of the United States.
There will be a reckoning. Trump’s a decrepit old man. These excesses cannot sustain themselves.
It won’t exactly be a Nuremberg, probably less multinational and disciplined. But even Hoover’s FBI had its reckoning after Nixon with the Church Commission.

Their excuses of “just following orders” did not save them from eventual prosecution, conviction and imprisonment.

But even cops, good and bad, don't wear masks, do use badges, name tags, body cams, etc. I swear to God if some belligerent asshole came at me with a mask on, threatening bodily harm and "arrest", I would do everything in my small power to rip that cheap piece of cloth from his face so his mother could see him online, on TV, etc etc. I have no doubt at all that these guys are ex-cons, felons, etc who were given these jobs to enlarge their cajones and wreak havoc on the population. My guess is because they are J6 insurrectionists , proud boys , oath keepers and an assorted number of radical right wingnuts Trump has “deputized” to operate as his personal militia…his Naz-ICE if you will.

What if you’re wrong? What if the US has always been this way? What if the only thing that’s changed is the scale, scope and brutality of this kind of operation? I think you’re seeing things from a privileged perspective.
There is a whole history of unjust and illegal practices in the US targeting women, blacks, minorities, homosexuals, transgender and other fringe groups. Even after correcting those injustices there’s usually very little accountability and that is a big reason why this sort of thing has not only not gone away but it’s worsened over time.
Maybe this is why today they could kick it up a notch without much pushback. Russell Vought, one of the authors of project 2025 stated, “this will be a peaceful transition if people let be.” Where does he get the idea that a society that upholds the rule of law and respects human rights would ever contemplate the notion of passivity in the face of tyranny and human rights violations? Yet, that’s exactly what’s happening. My personal opinion is that the US is now doing domestically what it’s been doing abroad for decades. There’s a reason we’re not members of the ICC. What we’re seeing today is the end game of a conditioning that began decades ago.
