We Know You Voted For Him. We Watched You Cheer.

You went loud for the cruelty and silent for the consequences. We kept track of both, and we are not letting this go.

Think back to Trump’s first campaign for the White House. Your social media feed filled up every single day with the same handful of people. A cousin. An old high school classmate. Someone two desks down at work. They posted about him from the second they woke up to the second they fell asleep, and they wanted the whole world to see.

They shared the fake news. They shared the misinformation. They shared the mean spirited memes ripped out of context and the so called facts anyone with thirty seconds and a search bar would shred. Every cruel thing he said became proof of his strength in their eyes. Every illegal move became proof of his muscle. Every group he insulted and every country he disrespected turned into one more reason to call the rest of us snowflakes.

They fed off the hate. They got loud about it. They made ordinary American life feel heavier for everyone who shared a town, a workplace, or a dinner table with them.

So where are they now?

Now, Sudden Silence

Fast forward to Trump’s second term. We have lived through tariffs that hit your grocery bill and your hardware store and your kid’s classroom supplies. We have watched ICE roll into city streets and quiet neighborhoods. We have listened to division pour out of the Oval Office on a near weekly schedule. We have followed billions of dollars in grifting flow toward Trump, his family, and the circle of people feeding off his administration.

The loudest voices from back then have gone quiet.

The same accounts that once flooded your timeline now sit still. The meetings I used to sit in, the ones where his most devoted fans talked over everybody else, feel a lot more subdued these days.

Scroll through what is left. The posts defending this administration come from a shrinking pool. Far right diehards. Influencers cashing a check to keep the content flowing. AI generated bots repeating the same racist insults and lines on a loop, propped up by misguided people and a few foreign governments who enjoy watching America turn on itself.

The neighbors and friends and family who used to lead the parade have stopped showing up for him.¹

Why They Went Quiet

Let me tell you what I think sits under the surface, because the silence follows a pattern.

When a person ties their whole identity to a leader and then watches their leader pile up cruelty and chaos and self dealing, the mind starts to ache. Psychologists have a plain name for this ache. They call it cognitive dissonance. Two truths sit inside the same head and refuse to live together. I am a good person. I cheered for a man doing ugly things. The discomfort grows, and the brain hunts for the cheapest way out.

Going silent is the cheapest way out. Silence lets a person dodge the apology. Silence lets a person skip the long look in the mirror. Silence guards the ego while the conscience quietly squirms.

I understand the human part of this. Shame is heavy. Owning your mistake in front of everyone who watched you be loud and certain takes real spine. But here’s the thing, our country does not have the luxury of waiting around for you to nurse your ego in private.²

We Were Paying Attention The Whole Time

Here is the truth you need to hear. We saved the receipts. We paid attention the entire time. We know exactly who lined up behind Donald Trump and cheered for the cruelty and the lies, and never blinked at the damage done to people who deserved none of it.

Some of us walked away from those relationships for good. Some of us blocked the accounts and never looked back. For the people we loved, the friends and family we did not want to lose, a lot of us simply scrolled past the posts and waited for the fever to break.

Fast forward and your silence today erases none of it. This operation started back in 2015, and our memory runs long. We watched. We took notes. We felt the disappointment settle into our chests. Plenty of us chose the high road and kept moving forward, carrying the quiet knowledge of who stood where when it counted.

Today you say nothing. You assume we moved on. We did not.

Your Silence Is Not Neutral

Here is what your silence does. Your silence hands cover to the people still waving the MAGA flag. Your silence tells them nobody will call them out. Your silence gives permission to the next person tempted to repeat the lies and pass them down to their kids.

Quiet looks harmless. Quiet keeps the whole machine running.

We are done looking away. We are done letting this slide. So let me tell you what comes next.

The Path Back Runs Through Courage

You want back into our lives. I believe a lot of you do. A path home exists, and the path home asks something real of you.

Stand up. Speak loud. Say out loud that you do not support this administration or the unethical and illegal conduct pouring out of it. You don’t have to admit you were wrong and you don’t have to come up with clever excuses.

Just start doing the right thing.

Tell your family. Tell your friends. Post the need for decency, accountability, and honesty where people will see, if you have the nerve. Make clear that you will not back a president who places his own interest and his family’s fortune above yours and above the Constitution he swore an oath to protect.

Better yet, join us in voting for new leadership and a new majority in Congress in November. Support releasing all of the Epstein files and holding those who refuse to do so accountable.

Then pick up the phone. Call the people who represent you in Congress. Demand they do the same. Demand they put the country ahead of the party and the talking points.

This work decides the country your kids and grandkids inherit. Nothing smaller is on the line.

The Clock Is Running

The future of this country sits on the table right now, and the midterm elections are coming fast. Hand MAGA Republicans continued control of Congress and you risk losing the constitutional rights and the democracy your family leans on every single day. Stopping that slide falls to people like you.

I will say again what I said at the start. We know who you are. The time for sitting on your hands is over. Speak the truth out loud. Choose America ahead of Fox News talking points and the propaganda machines pumping noise into your living room every night.

If you come around others will too.

Do you want to be known as someone who thinks critically, examines the facts, and makes decisions based on evidence?

Or as someone who never asks questions, never challenges assumptions, and treats every claim as an order to be followed?

It’s not that hard to do the right thing. But you need to start. Do this, and a path opens back to the relationships you let slip away.

One path requires independent thought. The other requires obedience. The choice is yours.

Today is the first day of all the time you have left before the midterms. Use every hour of it.

Silence is complicity. Complicity is a choice, and you get to make a different choice starting this minute. I am counting on you. Your family is counting on you. The people you work beside and the neighbors down your street are counting on you to stand tall and do the right thing.

Register to vote. Check your registration even if you feel certain you are fine, because voter purges are real and they are happening right now. Vote for change in Congress. If you felt the heat of these words land on you personally, let the feeling move you to change your conduct and your whole sense of what doing right looks like.

The 2024 Presidential Greatness Project Expert Survey asked 154 historians and presidential scholars to rank every U.S. president, and Donald Trump’s first term landed at 45th, dead last, scoring 10.92 out of 100, below Andrew Johnson and James Buchanan. Joe Biden came in 14th. C-SPAN’s separate 2021 survey placed Trump 41st out of 44 and ranked him last in both Moral Authority and Administrative Skills. These are independent studies run by different institutions, and the genre stretches back to 1948, with the Siena College Research Institute running its own version since 1982. Multiple surveys, separate teams, the same low placement.

Now look at the second term in real time. Trump opened it at 47% approval, the second-lowest start in the history of presidential polling, behind only his own first term, and the line has moved in one direction since, down. Nate Silver’s Silver Bulletin average as of mid-June puts his net approval at -18.9, with 48% of Americans strongly disapproving and only 22.6% strongly approving. Pew surveyed 5,103 adults in late April and measured his job approval at 34%, the lowest of this term, with the share who say he keeps his promises falling to 38% from 51% right after his 2024 win. Even his base is loosening, with 78% of his 2024 voters still on board, down from 95% in the early days. Across the major aggregators his approval now sits in a band of roughly 37% to 41%, with one tally landing at 38.6% approve and 58.0% disapprove.
