I feel you Mitch. Even after Tuesday we have messy challenging getting our people legitimized and seated. It's the messiest task but we have to finish the job. We have brilliant people like Ty Cobb, Alex Vindman just to mention a couple. I feel the melancholy often but can't afford to live in it. I ask my Lord and his Angels to protect us with their power.

We share the feelings, and hope the burden passes soon. While trouble will be with us at least for the next 2 years, we have to believe that "this too shall pass." It has to. Thank you for your enriching words of wisdom and truth.

It is stunning to realize that after the corruption & havoc this man has brought on the U.S. (as well as the world) he could even have a sliver of support among rational people.

I have friends who are Trump supporters, yet they made good decisions in every other aspect of their life. I still struggle to see what they see. I think part of it is the information ecosystem they get their information from...they don't see more than 5%-10% of the realities of this administration.

Mitch-I think you’ve (again) captured what many of us are feeling or have felt: the “heaviness” is real and painful. I couldn’t help reflecting on how Christ must have felt when was on Earth; He poured His life and heart into people because He loved and cared so deeply, only to be rejected by those who couldn’t see the truth with their eyes open. And while I said that in the past tense, His love has never ceased being doled out to all. So, this afternoon, despite the blindness or failures of those we love and hold dear to admit they’ve drank a poison potion, it’s been (their) choice. We go on loving them: giving truth, facts, while rolling up our sleeves and continue our advocacy, knowing we’re in the (best) company!

I needed to hear this because it’s what keeps me grounded. Sometimes it’s even hard to breathe because of the onslaught that comes from this man and this administration. But…we keep hoping for the best.

I've been alive a long time. As a child I read a biography of Lincoln. I was in elementary school when Kennedys were shot. I was in high school when they landed on the moon. I remember Dr. King being on television. I am glad I never had to live in the country my father helped win World War II for. I would have done the same, but never had to.

Remember you live in a remarkable country. Do not let one rapist felon murderer mess it up. Too many great people have called it home.

I also am feeling a type of ambiguous grief knowing that people I care about see the corruption and destruction the Trump administration and still say: "That's my guy."

I share your heavy heart, Mitch. But if Trump’s people all lose, I’ll gladly take that heavy heart and roll up my sleeves.

Yes, thank you. With you on all of it. And not stopping now.

I feel exactly the same way. That something is broken. Can it be slowly, HOPEfully, super-glued back together? So much water under the bridge. It'll never be the pretty, deeply hopeful, believing thing it was. Not for my heart. The innocence feels forever shattered. The underlying “what is next” fear is now omnipresent….and the knowledge that somewhere between 30-40% of “humanity” (I use quotes…because I use the word loosely") somehow BELIEVES…that it has all been ok. That every dirty deed, ever human being hurt, ripped off, hurting, or lost, is justifiable. The cavalier, egocentric, unscrupulous, hateful origins…have mesmerized, and taken such root. I somehow thought we were more. I served years and decades for “it.” I ALSO am sadly aware there are far too many people who don't care at all. As long as they have what they need, another day, they're “golden.” Yeah. I relish the idea of some correction in our course, on Tuesday. Hopefully it doesn't become a shit show in the aftermath. I'm petrified of what could happen…. I'm just not sure after everything--even if the course correction is made--that we can pull it off. That we can ever reclaim, or re-right, the experiment/ship. In short: I'm with ya’, Mitch.

It breaks my heart too , that tens of millions of Americans still stand behind Donald Trump. Partly that's just the nature of two Party politics, 30 or 40% are going to vote for anybody just to be different. And in America 30 or 40% are still racist misogynist xenophobic bigots . And add to that a thought of mine that we will be disappointed Tuesday night . That's also the nature of politics , there are no absolute victories, there will be things to be disappointed about. But God willing we will achieve priority One the house, and very likely priority too , the Senate. We have achieved much already in the energy and intelligence that people have demonstrated in educating themselves about fascism and capitalism and American politics and that will last.

This entire message sent me on Sunday captures my sentiments precisely and in full.

My own mother and possibly some friends and relatives are the reason for this reply. I concur!

If the people among them who do not get it Vote Blue And Tell Me That You Did. My trust in you has been for decades and still is damaged miserably by every lack of support and, in the case of my mother Carol that really is. It is why I haven't the heart to call her and why none of you have been told I was informed my younger son violated his marriage and fatherhood of two beautiful *grandchildren.*

I can feel your heavy heart, Mitch, some 1,000 miles away because it's the same heaviness that's taken up occupancy in my heart for so long. And, honestly, I don't know how to fix it, particularly since we were still trying to fix those things that showed where our democracy was still falling short even before a certain person rode down the escalator to announce his candidacy more than a decade ago.

He gave permission for such "-isms" as racism and sexism and such "-phobias" Islamaphobia and transphobia to come out, while making greed truly good (unlike the way the fictional Gordon Gekko talked about it) and the environment something to pillage and plunder.

He's divided us in a way unseen since the Civil War, only this time there are no clear battle lines.

He's made me question the idea that the arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice.

Those words were first spoken before the Civil War by an abolitionist, and then again during the Civil Rights movement by Martin Luther King Jr. and then by President Obama 13 years ago, when he spoke in front of the Lincoln Memorial on the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington.

But how long is long? And where was it written that we'd go backwards?

I hope Tuesday turns out such that this arc can start to bend forward again. As you wrote, we have a lot of rebuilding to do. Maybe this time we'll get it right.
