Let’s get something straight: Donald Trump is lying about Ukraine. Again. And not just bending the truth—flat-out, Kremlin-approved, reality-warping nonsense designed to make Russia look justified and Ukraine look like the problem. It’s dangerous. It’s dishonest. And it’s exactly what Vladimir Putin wants Americans to believe.
Trump claims Ukraine “started the war.” A bald-faced lie. He calls Volodymyr Zelenskyy a “dictator” because wartime elections are on hold. Another lie. He whines about U.S. aid, pretending Ukraine is bankrupting America when, in reality, supporting Ukraine strengthens global security and undermines Russia’s military. Yet another lie.
This isn’t just Trump being ignorant—he knows what he’s doing. He’s pushing propaganda that weakens U.S. leadership, emboldens autocrats, and puts democracies worldwide at risk. If you still think he’s just speaking off the cuff, wake up. These lies serve a purpose.
Russia’s War—Not Ukraine’s
Rewriting history has always been Putin’s game, and now Trump is playing along. Ukraine didn’t “start” this war—Russia did, and the timeline isn’t up for debate.
Let’s talk facts:
In 2014, after Ukraine’s people rejected a corrupt pro-Kremlin government, Russia illegally annexed Crimea and ignited a separatist war in eastern Ukraine. That war cost 14,000 Ukrainian lives before Russia even launched its full-scale invasion.
By late 2021, Russia amassed 150,000 troops on Ukraine’s borders. Despite repeated denials, Putin invaded on February 24, 2022, targeting Kyiv, Kharkiv, and Mariupol.
No, Ukraine wasn’t “provoking” Russia. There was no genocide against Russian speakers. Ukraine wasn’t about to join NATO. Putin’s pretext for war was fiction—just like Trump’s revisionist garbage.
Trump’s claim that a “deal” could have prevented the war? Laughable. Zelenskyy offered to negotiate in 2021. Putin ignored him. The West tried diplomacy. Putin ignored it. Ukraine had zero interest in war—this was a one-sided act of Russian aggression.
So why does Trump keep spinning it differently? Because it benefits Putin. Plain and simple.
Zelenskyy: Elected, Respected, and Fighting for Survival
Trump calls Zelenskyy a “dictator” because Ukraine isn’t holding elections right now. Let’s break this down:
Ukraine has been under martial law since Russia’s invasion. The Ukrainian constitution explicitly prohibits elections during wartime.
Countries have postponed elections in wartime before—including the U.S. during the Civil War and the UK during World War II.
Zelenskyy’s approval rating? 57%, according to a February 2025 poll. That’s higher than most Western leaders, including Biden and Trump.
Trump claims Zelenskyy has a “4% approval rating.” Not only is that false—it’s so ridiculous that even Russian state media didn’t try that one.
Trump’s goal here isn’t just to smear Zelenskyy—it’s to undermine Ukraine’s legitimacy. If he can convince people Ukraine’s government is corrupt, maybe they won’t care when Russia continues its assault. That’s exactly the narrative the Kremlin wants out there, and Trump is more than happy to oblige.
Trump’s Lies About U.S. Aid
Trump loves to whine about the “hundreds of billions” sent to Ukraine. The reality?
The U.S. has sent $175 billion in total aid—not $350 billion, as Trump falsely claims.
Europe has contributed nearly $100 billion, with countries like Germany and Poland leading the way.
That U.S. aid? Less than 0.3% of annual federal spending—less than what the Pentagon spends in a single month.
And what has that aid accomplished?
87% of Russia’s pre-war tank fleet is destroyed.
63% of its combat aircraft? Gone.
Russia’s ability to threaten NATO? Severely weakened.
Every dollar spent on Ukraine depletes Russia’s ability to wage war. That means keeping Putin in check without a single American soldier setting foot on Ukrainian soil. If anything, supporting Ukraine is a bargain.
Yet Trump still calls it a waste. Because, again, he’s not interested in truth—he’s interested in pushing a narrative that helps Russia and hurts Ukraine.
Trump, the Kremlin’s Favorite Megaphone
None of this is an accident. Trump’s lies line up almost perfectly with Russian disinformation.

And make no mistake—if Ukraine falls, Putin won’t stop there. He’ll take what he can, wherever he can, for as long as the world lets him.
So, are we going to let a conman spewing Kremlin-approved lies dictate U.S. policy? Or are we going to recognize this for what it is—another Trump grift, built on disinformation, designed to serve everyone but the people fighting for freedom?
