From California Governor, Gavin Newsom:

Let me be direct about the potential impact of this Republican mega-bill that could come to a vote in the House as early as today.

If passed, the bill will strip up to 3.4 million Californians of their health coverage and cost the state an estimated $30 billion in lost federal funding.

That is not fearmongering; it is the truth. And it is what Republicans are voting for – including these California Republicans.

🔴 Republican Doug LaMalfa (CA-1) - 38,000 of his constituents will lose coverage.

🔴 Republican Kevin Kiley (CA-3) - 23,000 constituents will lose coverage.

🔴 Republican Tom McClintock (CA-5) - 30,000 constituents will lose coverage.

🔴 Republican Vince Fong (CA-20) - 29,000 constituents will lose coverage.

🔴 Republican David Valadao (CA-22) - 43,000 constituents will lose coverage.

🔴 Republican Jay Obernolte (CA-23) - 38,000 constituents will lose coverage.

🔴 Republican Young Kim (CA-40) - 18,000 constituents will lose coverage.

🔴 Republican Ken Calvert (CA-41) - 28,000 constituents will lose coverage.

🔴 Republican Darrell Issa (CA-48) - 21,000 constituents will lose coverage.

Some of them are voting for it because they want the cuts. The others, out of fear of Trump. But the end result will be more than 250,000 of their own constituents who may lose their health care all to give tax cuts to some of the wealthiest people in the country.

Unfortunately, that is not all.

The loss of federal funding would also force a number of hospitals and clinics across the state to shut down.

So that is just a small sample of what is at stake here. There’s more -- much more -- including cuts to food assistance programs, tax cuts for gun silencer manufacturers, and plenty of other devastating bits and pieces.

Those are the facts. I wanted you to know them before the House votes on this bill.

- Gavin Newsom

I received a call yesterday and I had my phone off my back wouldn't allow me to even roll over, the call was from my local health administration office that I've been going to since at least 2007 they had a senior center and many LCSW who besides regular people like myself took Court mandated people who had a DUI for either drugs alcohol or both domestic abuse calls as the country would rather see a person get the help needed than get locked up for something that won't correct their behavior, they also had a community support group which was a combination of young & older and was perfect for people like me that don't get out unless I have to! And meet other people that in a rural area wouldn't have an opportunity to meet, met my friend who saved my life after a brain hemmorage we were supposed to plant flowers & vegetables and I knew I had a stroke the night before and called him to tell him I had a stroke & wouldn't make it and he told me to rest & that's fine, he called the health department right away and insisted on speaking to someone who knew me which they normally don't give out information & told them to please send someone to check on me! Sheriff first and I met them in the hallway & said don't worry I'm fine, EMTs must have been waiting in the parking lot he said something on the walky talky & 5 came running up to the 3rd floor, took my BP & looked at my eyes one dilated BP 198/90 said I had to go and if I refused he was going to get permission to sedate me, so I went & this is the fastest I ever seen hospital staff run around & after the CT I said when can I go home & was told my brain was bleeding& they called for a helicopter where they have a brain surgeon! This is what he's taking away from us! While the health department got small amounts of funding they did take public aid, most funding was private but people are hanging on to their money cuz they don't know what will happen in the future! I know I'm one person that Trump & Elon can live without and the fact that they provided almost Free mental health services to what he'd describe as a bunch of losers! Sad cuz both of them could've maybe been helped by this program but they won't admit to drug addiction or personality disorders 😭

A few of you have reached out about how how we stop this thing. The answer is as follows. We need to make it personal, make it loud, and make it constant. This bill only passes the House if it gets 218 votes. So if just five or six Republicans in moderate districts feel the heat, real constituent heat, it’s over. No floor vote, no press conference, no billionaire tax breaks wrapped in flag-waving soundbites. And if it slithers through to the Senate, it needs 51 votes to survive reconciliation. That’s a tightrope. One wrong step, one Senator who listens to their state instead of Trump’s donors, and it crashes. So the strategy is simple: call your rep. Call your Senator. Email. Show up. Drag friends. Be annoying in the best way possible. Flood their inboxes with stories, outrage, and facts. Make them feel that a “yes” vote is a career-ender. This isn’t a think piece. This is a call to action. Because they’re counting on us to tune out. So do the opposite. Tune in, speak up, and help kill this thing before it kills what’s left of the safety net.

Mitch. I could not agree with you more. I do not see the uprising coming from the American people that's necessary to stop this. I do not see the angry maga faithful coming to the realization that you've outlined here. They are ignorant, and ignorance is dangerous. I think Congress will approve this budget bill. They will be frightened for their positions and personal safety if they don't.

Furthermore, I take issue with the point that Americans (in general) want a country that works for them.

That point only applies to those who are capable of sound reasoning and are functionally illiterate. The majority of the electorate in this country has no idea how the country works. They can't think outside of their backyard. And that is a significant problem.

According to the National Center for Educational Statistics, 63% of the people in this country over 21 lack a college education. 21% of adults in the US - nearly one-quarter of the adult population- are considered functionally illiterate. This means they lack the skills to participate in society effectively. These are objective facts.

These same people lack sharpness of mind and are deficient in intellectual value and the ability to reason. They are deficient in basic intelligence. Yet every four years, these same people are charged with the responsibility of choosing the next president of this country and the leader of the free world. It is a significant problem without a solution, and the result will continue to haunt this country for the foreseeable future.

Let me simplify it: Who elected this moron and convicted felon despite every clear indication of what and who he is, what he represents, and what his intentions are?

The majority of the US electorate that voted elected trump to be the president of this country and the leader of the free world. Despite clear indications of who he is and what his intentions are, they elected him. And before they elected him, they bought his bible and gold sneakers.

Sit down, make yourself a drink, and think about that.

The rest of us will now have to live with and suffer from the result of their ignorance for the next four years and likely for decades to come.

No argument here. You nailed many of the issues. That’s why my team and I are taking the time to write this Substack. To inform, educate and hopefully get the 90M eligible voters who sat on the sidelines in 2024 to vote locally and nationally moving forward.
