Trump’s America: You Star in Borat, Drip Hair Dye, Rack Up Indictments… and Get the Medal of Freedom
Trump is actually planning to hand Rudy Giuliani the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Yes, that one, the highest civilian honor in the country.
The medal was created by President John F. Kennedy in 1963 to recognize people who’ve made “especially meritorious contributions” to the security or national interests of the United States, to world peace, or to cultural or other significant endeavors. In other words, it was meant for people who changed the world for the better, not for someone best known for melting hair dye, losing court cases, and starring in a Borat sequel.
To give you a sense of the company this award is supposed to keep, past recipients include Mother Teresa, Margaret Thatcher, Martin Luther King Jr., Rosa Parks, Thurgood Marshall, Harry Truman, Maya Angelou, Stephen Hawking and Jackie Robinson.
Giuliani is a Disgrace
Rudy Giuliani’s record speaks for itself. The story of his recent years is filled with indictments, lawsuits, judgments, and disbarments, all documented in public court filings and news reports. If a Presidential Medal of Freedom is meant to capture a person’s legacy, here is the legacy he brings to the table.
To kick things off I think it’s important to acknowledge that Giuliani isn’t just remembered for that Borat scene where he stretched out on a bed and fumbled with his hands down his pants after being duped by a fake reporter.
He’s also been busy in court over the last few years. For example, in Georgia, he was indicted in Fulton County on August 14, 2023 in the RICO case alongside Donald Trump and others. He originally faced 13 counts and pleaded not guilty. While a judge dismissed several solicitation of violation of oath counts for Giuliani, the racketeering count and most others remain, and the case is still pending.
In Arizona, he was indicted in April 2024. The charges include nine felonies such as conspiracy, fraudulent schemes and artifices, and forgery. He was served in May 2024, pleaded not guilty, and posted bond. In May 2025 a judge ordered prosecutors to re-present the case to a grand jury. Trial had been set for January 5, 2026, and the prosecution remains active.
As of today, both prosecutions in Georgia and Arizona are ongoing.
Civil Cases
In the civil defamation case brought by Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss, liability was entered against Giuliani on August 30, 2023. A jury on December 15, 2023 awarded about $148.17 million in damages. In January 2025 he was held in civil contempt for repeating the lies in violation of a consent injunction. Later that month the parties reached a settlement that included a promise not to defame them, and in February 2025 court filings confirmed he had fully satisfied the $148 million judgment.
He was also sued in New York in September 2023 by his former counsel Davidoff Hutcher & Citron and Robert Costello for about $1.36 million in unpaid fees. Litigation has continued, and on November 25, 2024 a judge denied Rudy’s motion to dismiss.
The Dominion Voting Systems defamation suit, filed in January 2021, remains active on the federal docket in Washington, D.C. The Smartmatic defamation suit in New York has moved forward as well, with appellate rulings allowing the claims to proceed. Smartmatic settled with OAN in April 2024 and with Newsmax in September 2024, leaving the Fox and Giuliani matters active.
After the Freeman and Moss verdict, Giuliani filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in December 2023. The case was dismissed on July 12, 2024, which exposed him again to collection efforts and additional civil claims.
Attorney discipline
Most agree that the infamous hair dye meltdown should’ve been grounds for disbarment on style points alone.
However, while he was able to get past the dye incident, he was not able to avoid being disbarred in New York on July 2, 2024 by the Appellate Division, First Department. On September 26, 2024 the D.C. Court of Appeals imposed reciprocal disbarment, ending his license to practice law in the nation’s capital.
Notable Additional Allegations
In May 2023, Noelle Dunphy filed a civil lawsuit in New York alleging sexual assault and harassment, wage claims, and that Giuliani claimed pardons could be obtained for two million dollars. These remain allegations in a civil case and are not criminal charges.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York investigated whether Giuliani violated the Foreign Agents Registration Act through work in Ukraine. In November 2022 prosecutors announced the investigation had closed without charges and returned his seized devices.

Handing Rudy Giuliani the Presidential Medal of Freedom is not an honor, it is a national joke and an insult to every American who has ever received it for real courage, sacrifice, and service. You do not elevate someone drowning in indictments, disbarments, and contempt rulings alongside giants like Mother Teresa, Rosa Parks, or Jackie Robinson without cheapening the medal itself. In Trump’s MAGA world, chaos and corruption aren’t slip-ups, they’re the operating system.
