That litigation settled the question: this land has no legal right of access through Yosemite. A change in ownership should not reopen a matter the courts already closed.
Now, with support from the current administration, NPS staff have spent months quietly negotiating a swap that would hand Kingsbarn an interest in park land in exchange for property elsewhere, all to build a new road connecting Highway 120's Big Oak Flat corridor to a private commercial development. This road would run within roughly five miles of an ancient sequoia grove, in a landscape that has real ecological value and no existing infrastructure to support new traffic, construction, or private development pressure.
Federal land exchange authority exists to serve the public interest and improve park integrity, not to manufacture access for a developer who bought the land knowing full well it was landlocked. Granting this exchange rewards land speculation, sets a precedent that private buyers can pressure NPS into road deals the agency has previously refused, and puts an irreplaceable natural resource at risk for the benefit of a single upscale development.
I ask that you publicly oppose this exchange, request full transparency and Congressional review of the negotiations to date, and press the Department of the Interior to affirm that no new roads will be built through Yosemite National Park to serve private development.
