The Silence of Good People

I don’t get it.

Everywhere I look good people, the kind of people who’ve built businesses, led teams, raised families, volunteered, donated, cared, are staying quiet. They’re watching what’s happening in this country and pretending it’s business as usual.

They post about their products. They celebrate another client win. They share pics from last week’s vacation. And yet, not a word about the chaos unraveling around us. Not a word about the attacks on truth, the normalization of corruption, or the erosion of basic decency that used to define what it meant to be American.

I’m not talking about bad actors or extremists. I’m talking about the good people. The ones I know personally. The ones who have hearts of gold and consciences that keep them up at night. They see it. They know it’s wrong. They tell me quietly, over coffee or in private messages, how sick it all makes them feel.

But in public? Silence.

Maybe it’s fear. Maybe it’s self-preservation. Maybe it’s the hope that if they just stay in their lane, it’ll all somehow pass. But that’s not how this works.

Putting profits over people and democracy isn’t a strategy. It’s surrender.

And what’s worse, it’s shortsighted. Because even if they’re right about where their “economic best interests” lie (and I don’t think they are), what good will it do if there’s no free country left to build a business in? What happens when truth is outlawed, when justice is optional, when silence becomes compliance?

What kind of world will your children and grandchildren be left to live in?

I’ve spent my life fighting battles in courtrooms, but this one isn’t about lawsuits or verdicts. It’s about the quiet erosion of courage. It’s about watching people I respect choose comfort over conscience.

I get it, some people believe speaking up costs something. It might cost business. It might cost friends. But truth be told, it’s not going to cost you anything that truly matters.

What it will do is connect you with more people who share your values and your vision for this country. It will draw customers and clients who respect courage and honesty. It will surround you with a community you actually want to be part of, people who engage, support, and stand shoulder to shoulder with you when it counts. Staying silent, on the other hand, costs everything.

I don’t know what it’s going to take for these good Americans to finally step forward. To post. To speak. To organize. To donate. To help rebuild a majority that actually stands for democracy in the 2026 midterms.

But I hope they do it soon. Because history doesn’t wait for the cautious. And silence, no matter how well-intentioned, always sides with power.
