That is not accidental. It is architecture by design, engineered to shape narratives, steer outrage, and influence millions of American voters at scale.
You think the news you watch at night is local. You think the anchor sitting in front of your city’s skyline is making editorial decisions about what matters in your town. You think your morning radio host picks the talking points over coffee. And you would be wrong about almost all of it.
Here is something most Americans do not know. A small cluster of corporations, run by a handful of billionaires and political operatives, now controls hundreds of television stations, thousands of radio stations, the most dominant cable news networks, the largest political podcasting operation in the country, and the most trafficked social media platform on earth. The editorial lean of this machine does not tilt slightly to the right. It barrels there. And in many cases, it drives straight into the arms of one man and one political movement: Donald Trump and the MAGA apparatus.

I have studied how power concentrates, how institutions protect themselves, and how language gets weaponized to make you believe something that serves someone else’s interest. And what I am about to walk you through is not conspiracy. It is corporate structure. It is public record. It is the exposed wiring behind the wall of American media that most people never bother to look at. Once you see it, you will never watch the news the same way again.
This article names names. It identifies the corporations, the owners, and the money. It maps the architecture of the most extensive right wing media ecosystem in American history. And at the end of it, I am going to ask you to do one thing that these companies hope you never do.
The Fox News Empire and the Murdoch Dynasty

Newsmax leaned into that moment, airing election conspiracy theories and attracting disaffected Fox viewers angered by what they perceived as insufficient loyalty to Trump. Newsmax agreed to pay 40 million dollars to settle a defamation lawsuit from Smartmatic and 67 million dollars to settle with Dominion Voting Systems, both cases arising from false claims that voting machines were rigged in 2020. A Delaware judge determined that Newsmax’s coverage constituted false and defamatory statements.
Today, Newsmax reaches approximately 75 million cable homes and maintains a significant streaming presence. Its average weekly audience is around 319,000. Its programming features hosts like Greg Kelly, Rob Schmitt, and other figures hired directly from Fox News. Its business model is built on the same audience loyalty dynamic as Fox, only aimed at a segment of the conservative base that considers Fox too moderate. In February 2026, Ruddy testified before the U.S. Senate Commerce Committee against the proposed Nexstar acquisition of Tegna, arguing that consolidation reduces competition and harms smaller networks like his. He told senators that the president was getting bad advice from FCC Chairman Brendan Carr and that more diversity of companies leads to more competition and lower prices. In 2019, Herring testified in court that executives at AT and T, through its subsidiary DirecTV, had urged the creation of the network. AT and T’s DirecTV was the source of up to 90 percent of OAN’s revenue at the time.
OAN has been consistently classified as far right by media analysts. It was a major promoter of false claims that Dominion Voting Systems manipulated the 2020 election. It was sued by Dominion and Smartmatic, settling with Dominion executive Eric Coomer in 2023. Internal communications revealed during litigation showed that on January 6, 2021, an OAN news director emailed staff instructing them not to call Trump supporters who stormed the Capitol rioters, and instead to call them “demonstrators or protestors.” The next day, network founder Herring emailed producers asking them to report on supposed Antifa involvement, despite the FBI finding no evidence of Antifa participation.
In December 2024, former Congressman Matt Gaetz, who withdrew from a nomination to U.S. Attorney General amid allegations of sexual assault, was hired to host a daily show on OAN starting in January 2025. In May 2025, Kari Lake, the former Arizona gubernatorial candidate who refused to concede her 2022 election loss, announced that OAN would provide news coverage for Voice of America. The network was added to Spectrum cable systems nationwide in July 2025.
The roster speaks for itself. The editorial posture speaks for itself. OAN exists not to inform its audience. It exists to reinforce a specific political identity.

The Daily Wire was founded in 2015 by political commentator Ben Shapiro and film producer Jeremy Boreing. In January 2026, Catholic podcaster Matt Fradd and his show Pints With Aquinas joined the roster. Shapiro supported Trump in 2020 and actively campaigned for him in 2024. Trump appeared on Shapiro’s podcast during the 2024 campaign. Fact checkers have flagged the Daily Wire for sharing unverified stories and misstating facts to advance partisan narratives.
The company has expanded aggressively into film production, including the documentary Am I Racist? and a children’s live action adaptation of Snow White. It launched DailyWire+ as a subscription streaming platform in 2022, and Bentkey’s Pendragon Cycle series is planned for release in 2026. In late February 2026, the Daily Wire began production on an untitled action film starring Jonathan Majors, the former Marvel actor who was convicted of misdemeanor assault and harassment in 2023 and subsequently dropped by major studios. Sinclair Broadcast Group: The Local News Giant Nobody Talks About
If you want to understand how political messaging reaches Americans in places that cable news and podcasts do not, look at Sinclair Broadcast Group. It is the largest owner of television stations in the United States. As of 2025, Sinclair owns, operates, or provides services to 185 television stations in 85 markets, affiliated with ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, and The CW. Its stations range from markets as large as Washington, D.C. to as small as Steubenville, Ohio. The company traces its roots to the late 1950s and the Smith family of Baltimore. It is widely regarded as politically conservative and has a long record of editorial decisions that promote Republican and right wing positions. Sinclair created a centralized news operation called News Central that distributed prepackaged news segments to its local stations. It aired a documentary critical of Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry in 2004. During the 2016 election, its programming often portrayed Trump more favorably than Hillary Clinton. In 2018, the network made national headlines when it required local anchors at dozens of stations to read identical scripts warning about “fake news,” a term Trump had popularized and weaponized.
In 2020, Sinclair pulled a planned segment that spread misinformation about the origins of COVID 19. In September 2025, Sinclair joined Nexstar in refusing to air Jimmy Kimmel Live after the host made remarks about the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Sinclair called Kimmel’s comments offensive, demanded an apology, and urged donations to Kirk’s family and his organization, Turning Point USA.

Nexstar Media Group: The Quiet Giant
Nexstar Media Group is the largest independent owner and operator of local television stations in the country, controlling more than 200 stations across 116 markets. It was founded by Perry Sook in 1996 and is headquartered in Irving, Texas. In 2025, Nexstar generated 4.9 billion dollars in net revenue and 891 million dollars in operating cash flow. Nexstar also owns approximately 80.8 percent of The CW television network and operates NewsNation, a cable news channel it launched in 2021 with promises of “fact based and unbiased news.” It also holds a 31.3 percent stake in TV Food Network.
Nexstar has been described as politically conservative and has a history of right wing political contributions. NewsNation, despite its branding as a centrist outlet, has drawn criticism for right wing framing in its opinion programming. Media Matters for America reported that the network has aired content involving racism, sexism, and anti immigrant messaging that mirrors other right wing cable outlets. Nexstar president Sean Compton previously helped Sean Hannity and Donald Trump expand their talk radio presence, and many NewsNation executives are former Fox News employees.
In August 2025, Nexstar announced a definitive agreement to acquire Tegna for 6.2 billion dollars, a deal that would create a broadcast giant owning 265 stations across 44 states and Washington, D.C. In November 2025, approximately 98 percent of Tegna shares voted at a special meeting approved the merger. When it comes to political talk radio, conservative voices dominate. According to a report from the Center for American Progress, 91 percent of political talk programming broadcast daily across the five largest radio companies was conservative. iHeartMedia sits at the center of that dominance. Its trade organization, the National Association of Broadcasters, has aggressively lobbied the Trump era FCC to eliminate ownership caps that prevent broadcasting monopolies. In 2024, iHeartMedia spent 4.47 million dollars on lobbying and made more than one million dollars in political contributions.
Salem Media Group: The Christian Conservative Pipeline
Salem Media Group is the second largest distributor of conservative commentary in American radio, behind iHeartMedia. Founded by brothers in law Stuart Epperson and Edward G. Atsinger III, Salem owns 117 radio stations in 38 markets, including 60 stations in the top 25 media markets and 29 in the top 10. Its Salem Radio Network syndicates conservative and Christian programming to more than 2,700 affiliates across the country.

Epperson was named one of the “25 Most Influential Evangelicals in America” by Time magazine in 2005 and co chaired “Americans of Faith,” a religious Republican electoral campaign. Both founders have served on the Council for National Policy, a network of conservative influencers and donors.
In April 2025, Salem signed a deal with Donald Trump Jr. and Lara Trump that made them both stakeholders in the company. Beyond traditional broadcasting and digital media companies, two tech platforms now function as force multipliers for conservative content.
Elon Musk purchased Twitter in 2022, renamed it X, and has since used the platform as a personal megaphone for right wing politics. Truth Social: Trump’s Personal Platform
No discussion of the American right wing media ecosystem is complete without the platform that its central figure built for himself. Truth Social is not the largest social media platform in the country. It is not the most profitable. It is not even close. What it is, is something that has never existed in American history: a social media company majority owned by a sitting president of the United States, publicly traded on the NASDAQ under the ticker symbol DJT, his initials, operating as a direct extension of the presidency itself.
Trump Media and Technology Group was founded by Donald Trump in October 2021. He launched Truth Social in February 2022, after being banned from Twitter and Facebook following the January 6 Capitol attack. Its stated mission is to “end Big Tech’s assault on free speech by opening up the Internet and giving people their voices back.” Its actual function is much simpler: it gives one man an unfiltered broadcast channel to 11.8 million followers, and it wraps that channel inside a publicly traded company whose stock price rises and falls not on earnings reports, not on user growth, not on advertising revenue, but on political sentiment, presidential announcements, and the emotional loyalty of retail investors who treat buying shares of DJT the way they treat buying a red hat.
Let the numbers tell the story first. On February 27, 2026, Trump Media filed its full year 2025 results with the SEC. Total annual revenue: 3.7 million dollars. That is not a typo. That is the total revenue for an entire calendar year from a company with a market capitalization that currently hovers near 3 billion dollars. What makes Truth Social dangerous to democratic norms is not its size. It is the fusion of a sitting president’s personal financial interests with his public communications. Trump uses Truth Social to make federal policy announcements. He previewed federal economic data on the platform before its official release in February 2026, a move that in any prior administration would have been considered an egregious breach of protocol, if not an outright violation of federal regulations governing the release of market sensitive government data. He posts on the platform dozens of times per day, tagging allies, attacking adversaries, sharing memes, directing media attention. Every post drives impressions. Every impression drives engagement. Every surge of engagement drives the stock price. And every move in the stock price directly affects the net worth of the man sitting in the Oval Office. This is not an abstraction. The company also launched Truth.Fi, a financial services brand that offers exchange traded funds themed around Trump’s political agenda, with names like “Made in America,” “America First,” and “Bitcoin Plus.” It launched separately managed accounts marketed to high net worth investors. It announced a digital token initiative for shareholders. And then, in December 2025, Trump Media signed a definitive agreement to merge with TAE Technologies, a California based fusion energy company, in an all stock transaction valued at more than 6 billion dollars. The deal, expected to close in mid 2026, would make Trump Media one of the first publicly traded fusion companies in the world. Under this plan, TMTG shareholders would receive shares in the new Truth Social company, while the existing DJT entity would retain TAE’s fusion operations and certain other assets.
Update (August 2, 2026): Trump Media just flipped the switch on something called Truth API. It’s a paid feed that sells Wall Street trading firms faster, machine-readable access to posts from the ten most-followed accounts on Truth Social, including posts by Donald Trump. The Financial Times and CNBC put the price as high as $100,000 a month, or $60,000 a month if you lock in a three-year deal. In any other era, any one of these facts alone would have triggered congressional investigations, SEC enforcement actions, and wall to wall media coverage. In this era, the architecture sits in plain sight, filed in public SEC documents, and the machine keeps running.
The Scale of the Ecosystem
When you add up the numbers, the scope of this ecosystem is staggering. Sinclair controls approximately 185 to 193 television stations. Nexstar controls more than 200, with a pending acquisition that would push it to 265 and give it reach into roughly 80 percent of American households. Gray Television operates over 100 stations. The E.W. Scripps Company owns more than 60, and Sinclair is aggressively pursuing its acquisition despite a board rejection. iHeartMedia owns 855 radio stations. Salem Media syndicates to more than 2,700 affiliates and owns 117 stations outright. Fox News, Newsmax, OAN, NewsNation, and Salem News Channel blanket the cable and streaming landscape. The Daily Wire dominates conservative digital media and podcasting. X reaches hundreds of millions globally with an algorithm that favors conservative content.
The only thing standing between the current landscape and full consolidation is the FCC’s 39 percent national audience reach cap, a rule set by Congress in 2004 to prevent any single entity from owning too many stations. The National Association of Broadcasters, Nexstar, and Sinclair have spent years lobbying for its elimination. FCC Chairman Brendan Carr has signaled openness to raising or eliminating the cap. The Senate Commerce Committee, in its February 2026 hearing, pushed back, with senators from both parties insisting the cap is statutory and cannot be changed without an act of Congress. If the cap falls, the next round of mergers will make today’s media concentration look modest.
These are not 180 independent companies making independent editorial decisions. Many of these entities share owners, share political donors, share lobbyists, share on air talent, and share a political alignment. Guests rotate between Fox, Newsmax, the Daily Wire, and Salem’s radio shows. Talking points that debut on one platform appear on another within hours. The feedback loop is tight, and it is intentional. Corporate leadership sets strategy. Strategy shapes programming. Programming shapes what tens of millions of Americans believe about the world.
The Money Behind the Machine
Follow the money and the structure becomes clear. The Murdoch family controls Fox News and News Corp. Christopher Ruddy owns Newsmax. Robert Herring Sr. owns OAN through Herring Networks. Ben Shapiro and the Wilks brothers built the Daily Wire. The Smith family built Sinclair. Lowry Mays and his successors built what is now iHeartMedia. Stuart Epperson and Edward Atsinger built Salem. Perry Sook built Nexstar. Donald Trump Jr. and Lara Trump now hold stakes in Salem Media and its affiliated news app.
These are not grassroots organizations. They are corporate entities with executive leadership, shareholder interests, advertising revenue models, and audience targeting strategies. Media companies survive by delivering the audience that advertisers want. In today’s fragmented media market, a loyal, politically aligned audience is more profitable than a broad, disengaged one. That incentive structure rewards sharp editorial positioning and punishes nuance.
And when a political movement like Trump’s commands a passionate, devoted base, every media outlet that aligns with that base sees growth, engagement, and revenue. That is not conspiracy. That is market logic. And market logic does not care about truth.
What You Need to Do
You made it this far. That means you care about what is real. So here is the most important part of this entire piece.
Do not take anything you hear on any of these networks at face value. Not Fox. Not Newsmax. Not OAN. Not the Daily Wire. Not your local Sinclair station. Not the posts amplified on X or Truth Social. Do not accept any claim as fact simply because someone on television said it confidently, or because a podcast host said it passionately, or because it appeared first in your news feed.
Do your own due diligence by cross referencing the story against at least two additional sources from different outlets with different ownership structures. Look at the byline. Look at the sourcing. Ask yourself who benefits from you believing this version of events. Ask yourself whether the story is reporting facts or performing outrage. Ask yourself whether the language is designed to inform you or to activate you emotionally.
You have access to public records. You have access to court filings. You have access to financial disclosures. You have access to the FCC’s own database of broadcast station ownership. You have the ability to verify any claim made on any network, by any host, in any segment, on any platform. The information is there. The question is whether you will take ten minutes to look.

Every single time a story makes you angry, pause. Every single time a narrative seems too clean, too outrageous, or too perfectly aligned with a political talking point, stop and check. The health of your democracy depends on this. It depends on whether enough Americans are willing to do the work of thinking critically about the information they consume every single day.
Nobody is coming to save you from misinformation. No algorithm is going to sort the truth from the propaganda for you. No network is going to voluntarily sacrifice ratings to give you the unvarnished facts.
That job belongs to you. And it starts right now.
