Ask yourself one question. Who do you want holding the most classified intelligence in the United States? On Tuesday, June 2, 2026, Donald Trump answered for you. He is appointing the job of Acting Director of National Intelligence to Bill Pulte.
You should know this man. He is the 38 year old grandson of a home building tycoon. He earned a broadcast journalism degree from Northwestern and built a career in private equity tied to housing products. He has run the Federal Housing Finance Agency since March 2025. He has never worked in intelligence. He has never served in the military. He has zero national security background of any kind.
The Director of National Intelligence runs the entire spy apparatus of this country and briefs the president every single day on threats to your safety. Trump just handed that to a man whose résumé centers on mortgages and social media stunts. He built a following by giving away money on Twitter (now X) and later used that same platform to publicly accuse Trump’s political enemies of fraud, turning his government post into a stage for going after the president’s critics.
Pulte spent the past year as Trump’s personal attack dog. He has used his government office to target perceived political opponents of the president, including Adam Schiff, Letitia James, and Lisa Cook, often relying on selective and highly questionable grounds. He stirred so much chaos inside the administration that the Treasury Secretary threatened to punch him in the face at a private dinner. He chased Trump’s enemies instead of doing the job he already had.
Now he is poised to lead the nation’s intelligence apparatus.
Apparently Trump is letting Pulte keep running Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac at the same time. One loyalist. Three of the most powerful jobs in government. No qualifications for any intelligence work.
This is how a democracy gets hollowed out. Loyalty replaces competence. Cronies replace experts.
