Solid point. For me, I really don't care what you call it, because what I think we need to focus on are the facts and fixing the problems. It's a substance over form type of situation.
Absolutely is going to happen with the power of subpoena and oversight, the power of the purse, and the separation of powers once again put into place. While this happens, the new Congress will begin to implement new rules and regulations designed for all Americans, not just people living in red states, and begin to enact new rules that will prevent this type of grift from happening moving forward.
Will new laws be enough? The extent of this corruption, as described, exceeds the extent of the Emoluments Clauses when family members (supposedly operating a business independent of the President) can use influence and the outside investors approach to accomplish the same ends. Plus the decision if emoluments do not involve a President's "routine" commercial transactions. This President mixes personal "deals" with the nation's contracts or trade arrangements.
I have to wonder if individual laws are not comprehensive enough. Perhaps an amendment to both Article 1 and 2 where Emoluments Clauses are specified might be a better alternative - especially when it comes to this Supreme Court and its erratic interpretations. Only drawback is the time this could take.
Laws without enforcement, whether they're old or new, mean very little in the short run. We need to focus on making sure we have a Congress in place where the majority will exercise their powers of oversight, powers of the purse, and separation of powers. That's both the short- and long-term solution.
The U.S. is paying the price of this unauthorized and unnecessary war — with lives, as well as our tax money; and inflation, which is affecting the whole world.
Every single day, we're paying this price. Congress needs to get its head out of its ass and start doing oversight and enforcing its separation of powers authority, along with controlling the power of the purse. Of course, this isn't going to happen with this Congress and this administration, and that's why the midterm elections are so damn important.
And with this inflation, seniors and the disabled are set to fall farther behind. Though the Social Security raise will be high, it doesn’t keep up with inflation; and the increase will mean some losing SNAP benefits and Medicaid, because the cutoffs don’t go up commensurately — so those people will end up even further behind.
This makes me sick. How can this be legal. Other administrations have tried to use insider trading and influence before these bozos. Is it just that the Rep are just ignoring this?

The combination of several things. First, the current Congress is in Trump's back pocket and would rather bend a knee and kiss his ring than do its job. To fix this, we will need to take back majority control in the midterms, which will allow for oversight, power of the purse, and separation of powers to be utilized to rein in what we're watching happen on a daily basis. The other issue is, specifically with respect to this story, much of what I wrote about isn't necessarily illegal. It's leveraging the presidential office to profit for family members, and it's clearly a conflict of interest and major financial grift. So a new Congress will need to review and institute new laws prohibiting this moving forward. That protects everyone and all Americans, regardless of what side of the aisle you're on.
