The Jeffrey Epstein Zorro Ranch in New Mexico
The Zorro Ranch story keeps getting louder. More documents, more coverage, and a question that keeps surfacing about why federal agents never searched the one Epstein property where survivors had already placed serious allegations.
I wanted real answers. So last week I put my team on it and told them to research what happened and give me the current status.

Here is what they found.
Quick Summary
Federal investigators searched Jeffrey Epstein’s Manhattan townhouse and his Caribbean island. They never obtained a warrant for Zorro Ranch, his New Mexico compound. Rep. Melanie Stansbury has called it the only major Epstein property with known allegations of sexual assault where the federal government never sought a warrant. New Mexico’s own agents conducted the first known full search in March 2026.
New Mexico Attorney General Raúl Torrez reopened a criminal investigation on February 19, 2026. A bipartisan legislative truth commission launched days earlier. Both followed the December 2025 and January 2026 release of millions of federal records under the Epstein Files Transparency Act.
As of July 23, 2026, no charges have been filed and no lawsuit has been filed. Torrez has threatened both a state court subpoena and litigation. The statute of limitations bars many potential charges. Epstein is dead. The state says the DOJ is withholding the unredacted files it needs, and the DOJ says court orders bar release. The commission’s initial report is due July 31, 2026.
Key Findings
Epstein bought the ranch in 1993 from the family of former Governor Bruce King and held it for 26 years. His estate sold it in 2023 to the family of Texas Republican Don Huffines, who renamed it and announced plans for a Christian retreat. The current owners cooperated with the 2026 search and are not accused of any wrongdoing.
Multiple women have said publicly they were trafficked to, abused at, or groomed at the ranch, including Virginia Giuffre, Annie Farmer, a trial witness known as “Jane,” and Chauntae Davies. NBC News has reported the figure at ten or more. A survivor identifying herself as Annette Church testified to the truth commission in June 2026.
The 2007 to 2008 federal non-prosecution agreement negotiated under U.S. Attorney Alex Acosta, later found by the DOJ Office of Professional Responsibility to reflect “poor judgment,” resolved the federal case without charging Epstein for New Mexico conduct.
Former Attorney General Hector Balderas says his 2019 state investigation found viable New Mexico conduct before the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York asked him to stand down under a promise to share information later. He says that promise was never honored.
The current fight is contested. Torrez says the DOJ has stonewalled for more than five months. The DOJ says it responded substantively and that federal law, court orders, and victim privacy protections bar release of unredacted files…
