It’s August 7, 2025, and we’re already halfway through Trump’s first year of his second term. The damage is real. The urgency is rising. The 2026 midterms are not just another election. They are the firewall.
This is the chance to claw back power and restore the constitutional checks Trump’s allies in Congress have shredded. Without a Democratic House and Senate, there is no real oversight, no legislative resistance, and no protection against the next wave of authoritarian power grabs.
We don’t get a second shot at this. We need a clear, disciplined, aggressive plan. And we need it now.
This is it. Seven easy-to-follow moves, all tied to local actions you can take starting today.
1. Lock in Strong Candidates Now
Every strong campaign begins with a serious candidate. There is no room for warm bodies filling ballot space. We need sharp, trusted, on-message leaders running in every competitive race, especially where Trump allies hold power or where Democratic seats are at risk.
What to do locally:
If you know someone in your community who should be running, encourage them. Introduce them to local party organizers. Volunteer to help them build early momentum. If no one is stepping up, reach out to your county Democratic Party and ask how you can help recruit serious candidates by the end of this year. Your district might not be the final battleground, but early pressure in every region builds national strength.

What to do locally:
Find out which districts near you are considered “lean red” or “toss-ups” and sign up to volunteer for those campaigns. If you can’t find one, your state Democratic Party can point you to priority districts. Host fundraisers. Organize carpools. Text voters. Knock doors. Every swing district is someone’s backyard, make it yours.

What to do locally:
Attend your county election board meetings. Demand transparency on polling locations, early voting sites, and ballot drop boxes. Push your state legislators, if they’re Democrats, to pass pro-voter laws now. If they’re Republicans, show up anyway and organize public comment. Become a poll worker or help recruit others. Keep eyes on the process.

4. Deliver One Message, Tailored for Every Zip Code
This election is about the freedom to live, work, and vote without government intrusion or corporate abuse. That message speaks to everyone. We need it front and center from now through November 2026. Every community deserves to hear it in their language, in their voice, and through their issues.
What to do locally:
Start posting. Start writing. Start talking. Use your social media, your community events, your church bulletins. Host message trainings. Get five friends to do the same. Pick the issues that hit hardest where you live, whether it’s abortion rights, gun safety, housing, or wages, and tie them back to freedom. Make the message stick.

5. Register New Voters and Reengage the Disconnected
Ninety million eligible Americans didn’t vote in 2024. That’s our army. Many of them are young, working class, nonwhite, or newly moved. They’re reachable. They’re local. And they’re ignored, until we change that.
What to do locally:
Organize a voter registration table at your high school football games, community colleges, parks, barber shops, farmers markets, or food banks. Target low-turnout neighborhoods. Use QR codes to connect people directly to your state’s registration site. Collect pledge-to-vote cards. Follow up. Keep going. The goal is simple: two new voters a week, every week, until Election Day.

What to do locally:
Join or build a rapid response group. It can be five people in a group text, ready to push back on viral posts with facts and truth. Share verified sources in your local Facebook groups and Nextdoor threads. Ask your city council and school board candidates to commit to truth-based campaigning. Don’t engage trolls. Correct them and move on. Teach your friends how to do the same.

Sign up to be a poll worker or poll monitor through your local elections office or through groups like Protect the Vote. Join a ballot-curing team in your county to contact voters whose ballots were flagged. Ask your local party or activist network if they have a legal rapid response plan in place. If not, help build one. We need 75,000 trained volunteers across the country. Be one of them.
