Bill Clinton never faced numbers this low in battleground states. Presidential approval rarely rebounds once it falls, because the burdens of governing grow heavier and scandals accumulate. The only exception in recent memory came when George W. Bush experienced a temporary rally in support after the September 11 attacks. Trump is not experiencing anything like that. His numbers are sinking without any sign of recovery.

The Abuses

The drop in support is not happening in a vacuum. Trump’s presidency is marked by actions that many view as abuses of power. Analysts have identified more than two dozen potential impeachable offenses.

He has ordered the military into American cities. He has gutted the independence of the Justice Department and FBI, attempting to turn them into tools of personal revenge. He has pressured media outlets to silence critics by firing hosts or changing programming. He has demanded the prosecution of figures such as James Comey and Adam Schiff, while simultaneously attacking the First Amendment. He has used self-dealing when investing in the crypto industry and many of the rules, regulations and laws have been changed to indirectly and directly help with his efforts. Each of these actions threatens the foundations of democracy and the checks designed to limit executive overreach.

The Public Response

What matters is how voters see it. The poll shows that people in swing states are not blind to the chaos. They see a misguided and corrupt man who thrives on retaliation, who bends institutions to his will, and who puts personal loyalty above the Constitution. Nearly half now say they want him impeached. That level of support for removal is not normal. It signals that ordinary Americans are fed up. They want accountability, not excuses.

The Road Ahead

Impeachment is unlikely while Republicans control the Senate, but the consequences of these numbers go beyond the immediate. If current trends hold, the 2026 elections could reshape Congress by giving back oversight and the power of the purse to the democrats. The very districts polled are the ones that decide the balance of power. These voters are sending a warning that they are ready to make a change.

Trump’s presidency is weakening because Americans are paying attention. The poll numbers tell the story of a public that is tired of abuse, distraction, and unchecked power. They are demanding something different.
