Sunday Morning Update on "The Bill"

What just happened in the Senate Friday and Saturday isn’t a quirky procedural moment or some inside-baseball policy debate. It’s a full-scale assault on the financial and physical health of everyday Americans. And no, that’s not exaggeration. That’s the truth backed by real numbers, real consequences, and yes, even Elon Musk’s own words.

This weekend, Trump’s allies in the Republican-controlled Senate pushed forward his so-called “Big Beautiful Bill,” a 940-page monster packed with sweeping tax cuts and brutal spending cuts. It cleared its first hurdle in a nail-biting 51–49 vote. Two Republicans, Rand Paul and Thom Tillis, broke from the pack. Not because they suddenly care about working families, but because even they could smell the mess this bill would create.

Let’s talk facts. According to the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office, this bill would add a jaw-dropping $3.9 trillion to the national debt. That’s a generational burden. Our kids and grandkids will be stuck paying for giveaways to the wealthy and corporate cronies while the rest of us get stuck with the fallout.

But it gets worse. This bill guts Medicaid to the tune of $930 billion. That’s the single largest cut to the program in U.S. history. The impact? 11.8 million Americans will lose their health insurance. You read that right. Nearly 12 million people, seniors, kids, working-class families, left without care, just to prop up a tax plan that overwhelmingly benefits those already hoarding wealth.

This is cruelty wrapped in red, white, and blue.

And here’s where things get more surreal. Even Elon Musk, “Mr. DOGE” sounded the the alarm on this bill. He didn’t mince words. He called it “utterly insane and destructive.” He warned it would “destroy millions of jobs in America” and inflict “immense strategic harm to our country.” Let that sink in. He’s calling Trump’s flagship legislation is economic sabotage. And he’s right.

Musk even said this bill is “political suicide for the Republican Party.” I hope he’s right because frankly, if they keep going down this road, it’ll be more than just their party that pays the price. It’ll be all of us.

While Republicans were busy fast-tracking this catastrophe, Democrats did everything they could to slow it down, forcing the full reading of the entire bill aloud. You can watch the reading on YouTube. Every page of that bill is a roadmap to more inequality, more suffering, and more instability.

Here’s the bottom line. Trump’s 2025 is looking a lot like the worst version of our country. Ballooning debt. Health care ripped away. Economic decisions based on loyalty, not logic. And a party too far gone to stop him. This bill is about rewarding donors, dismantling public safety nets, and locking in power at the top.

You don’t need to be an economist to understand what happens when you take away care from 12 million people and hand trillions to the richest. You just need to be human.

If you’ve been feeling exhausted, overwhelmed, or disconnected from the chaos coming out of Washington, that’s not an accident. It’s part of the plan. They want you too tired to fight, too confused to question, too cynical to care.

Don’t give them that win.

Talk to your friends. Show them the numbers. Share what Elon Musk said. Remind them what happens when we don’t pay attention, don’t show up, and don’t vote.

We need everyone to be loud. We need everyone to vote in the midterms. Especially each and every one of the 90M eligible voters who sat on the sidelines in 2024.
