Stop Whispering. Your Country Needs You Loud.
The people you serve every day are scared and silent, and they are waiting for one trusted voice to go first. That voice is yours.
You Know The Feeling
You are sitting behind your desk on a Tuesday afternoon, the coffee gone cold at your elbow, a client leaning back in the chair across from you. Somewhere between the signed paperwork and the handshake, the talk turns to the country. Your chest tightens. You know exactly where you stand. You also know the safe play, the easy smile, the gentle pivot back to business, the silence you have practiced a hundred times. So you swallow the words.
Here is the question I want you to sit with for a second. What does that silence cost you, and what is it costing the rest of us?
I am going to make you a promise. By the end of this, you are going to see that the fear keeping your mouth shut has the whole story backwards, and you are going to understand why the person your neighbors are quietly waiting to hear from, the one they are hoping will finally say the thing out loud, is you.
Let Me Admit The Scary Part First
Let me say the hard thing before you do, because you are already thinking it. Speaking up feels risky. You worry a client walks out the door. You worry about the one star review, the cousin who stops answering your texts, the referral that never comes. That fear is not silly. It is real, and pretending otherwise would insult your common sense.
Now sit with a second truth that lives right next to the first. Look around the next time you are with your customers, your neighbors, the parents at the school pickup. Most of the people you pass every day feel the exact churn in their gut that you feel. They are scared too. They are quiet for the same reasons you are quiet. And nearly every one of them is scanning the room for one steady person willing to go first.
That person is you. The moment you speak, you give them air.
Your Desk And Your Democracy Share A Wall
Maybe you tell yourself politics and business live in separate rooms. I understand the appeal. That wall is a comfortable place to hide.
Here is what happens. Someone wrote every rule you follow inside your office, someone you either voted for or let win by staying home. The taxes you pay, the licenses you carry, the protections your employees count on, the contracts you enforce, the courts you lean on when a deal goes sideways, all of it traces back to a room full of politicians.
The second you step out of your office and back into your life, the same thing holds. Your right to speak, to worship, to be treated fairly, to be left alone by a government with no business in your private choices, every one of those rights sits in the hands of the people holding power right now.
Your desk and your democracy share a wall. What happens on one side comes straight through to the other.
Why This Moment, And Not Next Year
So look at the moment we are standing in. A president sits in the White House who treats the Constitution like a suggestion and the country like a business he owns. He rewards the states flattering him and turns his back on the ones that do not. He puts his own grievances and his own bank account ahead of the family sitting at your kitchen table.
And the majority in Congress, the right wing party holding the gavel today, has decided the smart career move is to kneel. They bend a knee to a man acting like a king. They hand him whatever he wants and dare you to notice.
A Congress packed with his loyalists gives away the tools the founders built to keep any one man from running wild. Think about what quietly disappears the day nobody in Congress is willing to check him.
The subpoena goes silent, the one tool strong enough to drag the truth into daylight and force people in power to answer under oath. Oversight fades away, the hearings making officials explain what they did with your money and your trust. The power of the purse slips out of reach, the plain authority to say no to spending decisions that gut your schools and your services and your future. And the separation of powers, the whole design built to stop any single man from crowning himself, begins to crack.
Take those away, and you are living in a country where the man at the top answers to no one. You already know how that story ends. You have read it in history books. You have watched it happen in other countries and thanked God it was not here.
What Your Voice Does That Nothing Else Can
Here is the part the fear never tells you. Your voice is contagious.
The day a respected business owner stands up and says enough, something shifts. The teacher two doors down exhales. The nurse at the clinic feels a little braver. The young mom who thought she was alone in her worry realizes she has company. One honest voice hands a hundred quiet people permission to find their own.
You have spent years earning trust. People believe you when you tell them a contract is fair or a deal is sound. That same trust is exactly why your neighbors need to hear where you stand on the country their kids will inherit. You are not shouting into a void. You are handing courage to people who have been waiting for a reason to feel it.
Silence is a vote too. Silence is a vote for whoever already holds the gavel.
What To Do, Starting Today
So here is the line in the sand, and here is what standing on the right side of it looks like in real life.
Talk. Out loud. At the dinner table, in the group chat, across the counter, in the post you have been too nervous to publish. Tell your family, your friends, your neighbors, your clients what you see and why it matters. Share the things that inform people and steady them and remind them they are not crazy for being worried.
And point all of it at one clear target. Register. Vote. Bring everyone you know to the midterms this November like your future depends on it, because it does.
Winning back a majority in Congress puts the guardrails back on the road. You put the subpoena back to work. You bring the oversight hearings roaring back to life. You hand the purse strings to people who answer to you. You seat men and women who write laws for every American, in every state, red or blue, laws built for your whole country and for the family at your table.
This starts with new voices. It starts with yours. It starts today.
Be The Spark
So let me leave you with the picture I want you to carry out of here. Your community is a room full of good people staring at their shoes, each one waiting for somebody to lift their head first. You are standing near the front. You hold the trust and the steady reputation people respect. All you have to do is raise your voice and say the thing you already know is true.
Enough is enough.
Say it to your family tonight. Say it to your customers this week. Say it online where your whole town sees it. Then register, vote, and bring every worried, quiet, decent person you know to the ballot box this November.
You will feel the fear leave your body the second you start. You will feel something better rush in to take its place. Somebody in your life is going to read your words or hear your voice and finally feel brave enough to stand up too.
Be that spark. Start today. You will be so glad you did.

Start here. Open my article archives, find one or two pieces that hit home, and share them. That’s it. Don’t overthink it.

I speak out where I can - in my business and in private. Wherever I go. Whoever I meet - even at Walmart! :-)
Thank you for being the spark, Mitch. 💯 Here’s to sparking the rest of ‘U.S.’ to do the same.
