I write as a constituent demanding immediate action on ICE's operational practices, which now represent an unaccountable federal enforcement force operating outside the basic norms of American law enforcement.
Officer safety matters. But officer safety cannot be invoked to erase the civil rights of the citizens and legal residents those officers are sworn to serve. Those rights are equally important, and one cannot be sacrificed to protect the other.
Three facts, taken together, describe a structure with no accountability:
First, ICE agents routinely wear face masks and refuse to identify themselves during arrests, in violation of federal regulation requiring officers to identify themselves as authorized to make an arrest. Second, agents operate without visible badges or numeric IDs, making it impossible for a person who is assaulted, wrongfully detained, or racially profiled to file a complaint against a specific individual. Third, ICE is now spending up to $20 million on "shock glove" devices that inflict pain through direct skin contact and leave no burn marks or forensic evidence — meaning a masked, unnamed agent can now deploy force that is nearly impossible to prove after the fact.
A masked agent with no name, no badge number, and a weapon that leaves no trace is not a de-escalation tool. It is the removal of every mechanism by which a citizen could hold that agent accountable. This is not a partisan objection — members of both parties have introduced legislation (the VISIBLE Act, the No Masks for ICE Act) because they recognize this gap poses risk to citizens and legal residents alike, not just to undocumented individuals.
I am asking you to:
1. Cosponsor and champion legislation requiring visible ID, agency name, and badge numbers for all federal immigration enforcement officers.
2. Demand a full DHS accounting and independent oversight of the shock glove procurement and use-of-force policy.
3. Publicly state your position on this issue.
No public official who defends unaccountable, unidentifiable federal force will receive my vote. Please respond with your position.
Would rubber-soled shoes provide insulation from shock? What if the victim were to grab the perpetrato wearing leather boots and redirect the current back on him?
These gloves are similar to cattle prods and Tasers, and that is how we should refer to them. Sadly, both are legal in much of the United States, though they shouldn't be, and ICE would be the last agency anybody should trust with them. I think they should be outlawed nationwide. Too bad our congress is currently dysfunctional and neutered by the Republican majority.

I think it is awful that an all veteran run company is selling electrical shock gloves to ICE agents who will use them to violate the law and the US Constitution on a daily basis. Your products will be used to separate families, terrorize small children, subdue peaceful protestors, devastate communities, and almost certainly kill innocent people. I don’t know how you can live with yourselves. You’ve abandoned whatever oath to the Constitution you may have once taken, as well as the American principles of due process, civil rights, and freedom of speech. Shame on you.
This is inhumane. This goes beyond creating intimidation or fear, this is intentional torture intended by the government; especially since we’ve seen how ICE treats every person who is recording and witnessing the unlawful treatment of the immigrants.
This could be you, me, my neighbor being pulled from our cars, or simply walking about and being pulled aside for no reason at all. This is truly gut wrenching and absolutely horrifying. And still, no accountability for their actions but instead more powerful and deadly weapons at their disposal. All funded by our federal government with our tax dollars.

BTW, company website seems to indicate glove must be in contact with skin of person being zapped. So there's that consolation.
