This time last year, America was steady. The economy was recovering, global relationships were on the mend, truth actually mattered, and aside from the noise coming from Trump and his enablers trying to claw their way back into power, life had a sense of direction. We weren’t perfect, but the path was forward.
Fast forward twelve months, eight of them under Trump’s second term, and the picture is dark. Hate is at an all-time high. His reckless tariffs have triggered economic pain at home and instability abroad. Allies no longer trust U.S. leadership. Political violence is rising. Universities, law firms and the press are being targeted. Environmental protections have been gutted. Immigration policy has been twisted into cruelty. Fear now runs through federal agencies.
And while all of this unfolds, Trump is running the biggest grifts in modern history. His crypto ventures and bond schemes funnel billions into his pockets while everyday Americans struggle. His family is knee-deep in global business deals that directly benefit from U.S. policy decisions, the very definition of self-dealing and conflict of interest. It’s not leadership, it’s looting.
Here’s the brutal truth: if we don’t confront this head-on, there’s a very real chance the America we knew may never come back. Democracy doesn’t die all at once. It dies when citizens shrug, when outrage turns to exhaustion, and when corruption is allowed to masquerade as normal.
I apologize for venting, but I’m looking around and I can’t believe what I’m seeing. It’s disgusting. I’ll keep writing, I’ll keep fighting in court, and I’ll keep speaking out whenever I can. But for now, on this Sunday morning, I need to shut it all down for a few hours. I’m going for a long run.

I feel frustrated trying to get through to people on these subjects. Even those who agree with me politically, still won't take the time to read something, respond or have a conversation. Alone, I feel like I'm banging my head against the wall.
But when I'm on Substack and read all the great writers on here. Folks who are giving words to my thoughts, concerns and fears. It's a small relief to know that others are "mad as hell and not gonna take it anymore!"
With every illegal and authoritarian act, Trump/Vance et al, are emboldening MAGA and their venom is revolting. I literally cannot stand what we have become as a country and find myself in the same situation. Incredible that we are descending into MAGA's world and that this seems to be what people want, regardless of what polls may say and indicate. The country is devolving into a poisonous sickness. Does the patient/country live? At this point, I truly do not know. I am glad I am closer to the end of my life so I do not have to witness this total sham government much longer.
