Quick note from me, and I’ll keep it short.
You know me from Uncensored Objection. I cross-examine the powerful and tell you what the law actually says behind the headlines.
What you may not know is that your personal data is being sold to the government right now, and almost no law protects you from that surveillance. Local and federal police are using HART, Palantir, and FALCON to watch your neighborhood and lawful protest rallies, and federal agencies are demanding your private state voter registration data for immigration enforcement. Data privacy and politics are now the same story.
I just launched a second Substack called Privacy in America. And before you think “Mitch, I already have 47 newsletters I don’t read,” give me 30 seconds.
Here’s the deal. Earlier this year I spent several months writing a book on this exact topic because what I watched happen to my clients and in the news genuinely scared me. After 40 years in courtrooms, I don’t scare easy.
Your phone broadcasts your location 747 times a day, and it goes past your carrier to thousands of strangers bidding in ad auctions you never agreed to. Data brokers hold up to 10,000 details on you and sell your profile for pennies. Scammers and stalkers buy it. So do government agencies buying their way around a warrant. Your car generates 25 gigabytes of data every hour and streams much of it off the vehicle in real time. Every piece of your life gets shared and sold to people you’ve never met. AI can now clone your voice from three seconds of audio.
This isn’t a tech problem. It’s a you problem. A your-family problem. A your-company problem. One breach, one cloned voice call to your assistant, one deepfake of your CFO, and you’re explaining it to your board or the FBI.
So here’s what I’m doing. Privacy in America takes everything from my 21 page book, adds to it the latest legal and technology concerns, and turns it into plain, bite-sized, easy-to-understand action: who’s using your data, how they’re doing it, and exactly what to do about it this week. No jargon. No fear-mongering. Just the moves.
If that’s useful for you, your kids, or the business you spent your life building, come join me: privacyinamerica.substack.com
Uncensored Objection isn’t going anywhere. This is just me opening a second front.
See you over there,
Mitch
