I wasn't sure though why he made so many appearances on so many substacks or YouTube channels. Was he going to be running for office? I didn't know. I thought he was trying to set the record straight about himself, but also to defend his father's legacy.
Personally, I would have liked to see him, take his sobriety, and his presidential pardon, and live a relatively quiet, and humble life, with what time his dad has left. Heck, for all we know, he may have done this to help with the family's finances. It's not like Joe did the fruitful grifting that 47 is doing!
And then there's what had to be a hard swallow for Hunter knowing 47's sons are ACTUALLY banking way more than Hunter was even ACCUSED of gaining from having a father who is the POTUS. That had to hurt.
I'll not judge, for I'm not in his shoes. It may have been just too tempting to watch others capitalizing, legally, off of one's notoriety, even if it leaves a fowl odor in the air, kind of like, "Why tf not?" You've got to strike while the iron is hot, right? And to your point, he now owns the new version of the laptop story. For better or worse, he got the last laugh. I just hope the whole thing doesn't mess with his sobriety.
I just want to emphasize Hunter said they were holding on their end and that he didn't make any money off of this venture. So until I know otherwise, for certain, I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt - though we may never know for sure exactly who got those large payouts.
I do think whoever does invest in thin air shouldn't be surprised when they are left holding just that.

I agree. I was initially impressed by hunter’s willingness to talk real talk about addiction and recovery. Then he put his recovery work behind a paywall. Most addicts don’t enter recovery with millions of dollars, or a family with millions of dollars, or with access to the kind of Recovery programs that Hunter had access to. Most of us who have been through addiction and Recovery are still struggling to put our lives back together. We don’t have an extra $10 a month or eight dollars a month for a Substack, even one on Recovery. So when he did that that put a bad taste in my mouth. And he hasn’t done anything to change it since.

The why is the question. I could see it as a parody of the Trumps, maybe about money, but carefully I want to say this. Hunter has something that he earned and right there that puts him in a class above them and most of the people who you know. That he has fought back from the embarrassment of everything in his past life is the earned, but staying sober, reclaiming his relationship with family and friends is the part that separates him from the people who judge him. Reading your post and knowing how difficult to impossible that journey is for so many, I look at this as maybe a stumble, but I personally see it as nothing more. A meme coin feels like nothing more a corner of his story and a message to anyone who invests in them. Fame is so transitory. Invest in the person who has more than overcome what most couldn’t.

Learning to be sober does not preclude poor or vindictive judgment...it just means you don't catch it until afterwards.
