A felony indictment, an FBI complaint from his own staff, a court judgment for retaliation, and now a seat one election from the U.S. Senate. Here is the record. Here are the details.
Ken Paxton could rape a child and Republican Texans would still vote for him. That is how morally deprived those people are in Texas. Once a great state, now a state that nominates and supports criminals to lead their state. No thanks, Lone State, more Loser State.
"“…the Texas House of Representatives, run by Republicans, voted to impeach Ken Paxton. The vote was a landslide.
[And in the Senate, the opposite thing…]
“After two weeks of testimony from his former deputies, the Senate (also Republican) voted to acquit him on all sixteen articles it took to a vote.”
The above is amazing to contemplate and it shows us that it is only a small group of persons. It is just a few persons doing this. They do not go outside their circle. And now what does he get from DJ Trump? Not invite to the White House, not consultations about the state of the world, no. Trump will work all that stuff out. All he needs from Paxton is loyalty. And THIS is the guy Trump picked? It amazes one. I already said: "amazing." All one little circle...
That’s crazy unless the Republican Party now gravitates towards scandal and corruption. That would be a shame if that’s true. The party used to have standards.
I was born in McAllen Texas 69 years ago. Have two degrees from UT-Austin. Was very proud of my Texas roots. Not anymore. The state went from being defined for me by Anne Richard’s & Willie Nelson & Stevie Ray Vaughan to being dominated by Greg Abbott and Ken Paxton and the MAGAgelicals who voted them in. Crooks and their flock of fools. Sure am glad I live in Laguna Beach now.
We're glad you live in Laguna Beach too. Isn't Southern California amazing? I relocated from Arizona years ago and have never looked back. Between the people, the climate, the opportunity, the beaches, the water, the snow, the hiking, the biking, the art, it's all here and I love it.
I concur Mitch. My life has allowed me to live in London and Sydney, and travel extensively in Europe & Asia. But this place is my fave. An older female tourist stopped me on a recent dog walk in Laguna Beach Village and asked if I live here in Laguna Beach. I responded that yes, I’m a lucky resident. She replied, if you’re lucky enough to live in Laguna Beach then you’re lucky enough.
Brett, I am 65. I am an 8th generation Texan. I, too, was proud of my roots and heritage. I no longer feel that pride. I feel shame. I couldn't believe it when they acquitted that criminal POS Paxton!! He's got the audacity to run again and we have plenty of stupid people who apparently can't put 2 and 2 together to see what that spells out. He's a corrupt snake in the grass and will continue to be so! Birds of a feather flock together so of course that orange POS endorses him!
I am not a Texan, but am surrounded by concentrations of MAGAs. I would suggest that for far too many it is as simple as being thoughtlessly obedient to the cult's supreme leader. That mentality has not changed in 10 years.
When corporate $ is speech, armed violent insurrectionists are compensated from a taxpayer fund, presidential corruption is immunized by SCOTUS, the DOJ’s prosecutorial focus is the head on a plate target list from trump & his capos...
I got to tell you, it's because of all the misinformation, out-of-context information, and lies that I began writing my Substack. It's important that people are informed and educated as to what the facts are and not what people in high places tell you is going on.
I think there's a real chance that Texas could turn blue this year. Fingers crossed. Better yet, everyone PLEASE get out and vote in your local and national elections.
It's difficult, painful and disheartening to witness (and be a part of) the cynicism, denial, apathy marring our country right now. I would love to see a massive protest on July 4th from every single person who doesn't subscribe to this horrific corruption. It's a pivotal moment.
I'm with you Rebekah. Let's make it happen. Let's gather together and stand tall and be loud. Let's make sure everyone is registered to vote and then let's make sure everyone votes in this year's midterm elections.
It tells you all you need to know about MAGA. The old days of scandals ruining careers and stepping down when you've been caught red handed are long gone on the right. MAGAs not just a cult, they're a very sick and dangerous cult.
You're right Afonso. It really does tell you everything you need to know about MAGA. I don't like what I see, hear, or watch. It's time for change and that will be happening in this year's midterm elections.
The criminality is out in the open, and why wouldn’t be? When the president is the organizations capo they let you do that, he protects your grift, he endorses the criminal element to run our government, he kills innocent people on a whim, careful now, he’s coming after you if you oppose what he is doing.
You're right. The fact of the matter is that the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. In this case it's an old dilapidated tree barely able to stand and the apples that are falling are rotting and smell. We'll get this fixed in the midterms.
Oh I am registered and so is my husband! The people who i know and thought were smart, intelligent and responsible that voted for this are only looking at their stocks and sold their souls -imo for money. They have no reply when we bring up facts and they don't seem to care. It's been so disheartening and hard to maintain contact with them, honestly.
Some but not all. We need to show up in record numbers to drown their voices out and restore honesty, dignity, and ethics into our local and national political offices.

Unless I'm missing something, the writing is on the wall. It's absolutely true. Look at who's sitting in the Oval Office.

I forgot to mention how erudite your column is Mitch, and how much I’m enjoying it. Thank you!

Eighth generation is impressive. Why do you think so many Texans supported this guy and voted for this guy?

It's the economy & corruption...
When corporate $ is speech, armed violent insurrectionists are compensated from a taxpayer fund, presidential corruption is immunized by SCOTUS, the DOJ’s prosecutorial focus is the head on a plate target list from trump & his capos...
Corruption & propaganda is on steroids.

Resist the authoritarianism of the MAGA gangsters & grifters! Please 86 47: VoteBlue!

The smug look on the 2 felons tells it all. Disgusting. Texas, please vote BLUE and stop the corruption. No more years of trump or oaxton

I can't wait. If you're open to a recommendation swap, Mitch, please let me know. I'd love to have my page recommending yours and vice versa.

Endlessly disheartening, sickening.
It really is but we need to channel what's going on into registration and votes. And I know we will.

The constituents have seen his record and his conduct and have spoken “we want more of this“
