These 20 individuals were highly skilled technologists, former Google and Amazon engineers, who initially joined the U.S. Digital Service (before Musk rebranded it with a meme coin’s name) to modernize government systems for the American people. But instead of streamlining services, Musk’s version of efficiency seems to involve gutting the agency, compromising security, and turning critical infrastructure into a glorified beta test for whatever Silicon Valley fever dream he’s chasing this week.
The former DOGE employees didn’t just walk away quietly. Oh no, they made sure to call it what it was: a reckless dismantling of core government functions. In their resignation letter—addressed to Trump’s chief of staff, because of course—these technologists laid it out:
“We will not use our skills as technologists to compromise core government systems, jeopardize Americans’ sensitive data, or dismantle critical public services. We will not lend our expertise to carry out or legitimize DOGE’s actions.”
Translation? They’re not about to stick around and watch the digital infrastructure of the federal government be turned into the next Twitter debacle.
But wait, it gets better. According to the employees, unidentified White House visitors started dropping by their offices in January, conducting what can only be described as “loyalty tests,” grilling them on their political leanings and technical expertise—because nothing says “tech innovation” like McCarthy-era inquisitions. Add to that Musk’s mysterious mass firings and DOGE’s mismanagement of sensitive data, and you’ve got all the hallmarks of a government agency being run like a startup on its last round of funding.
Ironically, the entire point of the U.S. Digital Service (before it was Muskified) was to improve government technology, not strip it for parts. But here we are—where the supposed champions of “efficiency” are making government services less functional, security weaker, and critical systems more vulnerable. And when the actual experts who built these systems sound the alarm? They’re either ignored, fired, or forced to quit in protest.

Mitch, I’m in agreement with something James Carville said the other day. He predicts that this MAGA movement will implode and take the Republicans with them. The real problem with what’s going on is that they have completely destroyed any semblance of a real government and have even forgotten about the people that elected them into power. Their enemy is now themselves. The world has turned against them and even Russia cannot save them from imploding.
What an absolute nightmare. I hope Congress is able to bring some of them in for questioning so the facts are laid bare in front of the MAGA cultists who are so blind.
