On Sunday, Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche claimed he rescinded the $1.8 billion Anti-Weaponization Fund. He rescinded nothing. Here is what actually happened, and every document is linked at the end.

He is doing this to win the confirmation votes of Republican Senators, Thom Tillis and John Cornyn on Tuesday.
Four Big Problems
Problem #1: Blanche cannot unilaterally modify the Anti-Weaponization Fund settlement agreement on his own. Modification requires the signature of every party to the agreement.
The parties are the plaintiffs, President Donald J. Trump, Donald J. Trump Jr., Eric Trump, and the Trump Organization, LLC, and the defendants, the Internal Revenue Service and the U.S. Department of the Treasury. Modification requires all parties approval and written agreement. As things now stand, any and all parties to the original settlement agreement can seek injunctive relief and/or sue for specific performance of the agreement.
Problem #2: Nothing in Blanche’s representations stops the Anti-Weaponization Fund fund from being re-established in the future.
Problem #3: United States District Judge Kathleen Williams stated that the lawsuit against the IRS was brought in “bad faith” for an “improper purpose”—specifically, to manipulate the judicial process and manufacture false legal legitimacy for a collusive settlement. If this is true, then the original settlement agreement is void, any tax immunity flowing from it is void, and Blanche participated in improper conduct. Trump also appealed Judge Williams order. Problem #4: Putting aside this settlement, Blanche’s mishandling of the Epstein files should disqualify him from ever being confirmed. Full stop.

As Mitch pointed out, the document Blanche signed is incomplete. It is missing several signatures that must be part of the final document in order to have teeth (Trump, his sons and all other parties to the original agreement Blanche put into play). I fully expect Trump to try to circumvent Blanche's order without them. I have contacted both Tillis and Cornyn because they both know confirming this nominee without the required signatures is wrong. So do 50 other senators that are shielding their behavior and supporting Blanche's confirmation. Trump is hoping that the GOP does its typical cave job and add yet another undeserving and incompetent person, this time to the highest law enforcement officer in the United States (who just happens to be Trump's personal lawyer).
