Another Tragedy, No More Excuses: It’s Time to Act
America must demand action on gun violence before another family pays the price. Change starts when we stop waiting for someone else to fix this.
Now is the time to talk. Another shooting has torn through a place that should have been safe. Today in Michigan a church was set on fire and at least ten people were shot. One is dead. The grief is heavy and the anger is real.
Thoughts and prayers are not solving anything. We all see what gun violence does to families and communities. Words of comfort mean nothing without action.
I grew up on a ranch outside Tucson surrounded by guns and the people who loved them. We hunted, we fished, and we even built a gun range out back with railroad ties and homemade shooting benches. That was my world for years.
Then life pulled me in new directions. I started flying hang gliders, scuba diving, sailboarding, riding motocross. I spent less time around guns and more time around people who didn’t live by them. Distance gave me perspective. I’m telling you this because I know the culture from the inside. I lived it. And from where I stand now, the truth is clear. America needs change. We need it right now.
The fact of the matter is that the United States has the highest rate of gun deaths among wealthy nations. More than forty thousand people are killed by guns each year. Children here are more likely to die from gun violence than in any other developed country. We account for a small share of the world’s population but nearly half of all civilian owned guns. Mass shootings that shock the world seem like daily news in America. This is not normal. It is a national health emergency.
Other countries have faced gun massacres and acted. They passed strict laws, collected weapons, and required training and licensing. They reduced deaths and have kept them low for decades. Their citizens still hunt and protect their homes. They simply decided that life matters more than unlimited access to firearms. We can learn from them and do the same.
Our own history proves change is possible. We amended the Constitution to ban alcohol through the 18th Amendment. We later repealed that ban through the 21st Amendment when the nation chose a different path. The Constitution is not frozen. The Second Amendment can be improved. If we can change the Constitution, twice, for alcohol, we must update the Second Amendment to make it better and current. The excuse that nothing can be done because of one amendment is false and dangerous.
Gun manufacturers and lobbyists fight every effort to reduce sales. They flood Congress with money. They sell fear to protect profits. They write talking points about freedom and rights to hide the truth that more guns mean more deaths. Their influence keeps common sense laws from passing while families bury loved ones.
We need mandatory gun safety training before anyone can buy a firearm. We need clear limits on what weapons can be sold. Civilian assault weapons have no place in any community and should be removed and destroyed. We need universal background checks and real enforcement. We need a cultural shift that treats gun ownership as a responsibility, not an entitlement.
Every delay costs lives. Every day of silence allows another attack. Change will not come from empty statements. Change will come when voters demand leaders who value human life over industry profits and when lawmakers stop fearing the gun lobby more than they fear the loss of another child.
Now is the time to fix America’s gun violence crisis. We have the tools, the history, and the moral duty to act. The only question is whether we will.

People like Charlie Kirk express exactly how the 2 amendment loons feel. They just never think it could happen to them because they have their guns. I am not condoning violence like Kirk's murder or any of the violence we saw happen over the weekend. Again. Over and over. Obviously the country has a huge problem. We also lack effective leadership to enact the required gun law changes that will steer us back to sanity.
