An Open Message to Jaxson Dart and Boomer Esiason

After watching them double down on Dart’s introduction of Trump, I could not keep my mouth shut anymore.

I’m a sports guy. I’m also a First Amendment guy. I honestly could not care less what an athlete says about everyday politics. Say what you want. That’s your right, and I will defend it most of the time.

But here’s where I draw the line.

After watching Jaxson Dart, Boomer Esiason and a few others double down on Dart’s introduction of Donald Trump, and then Dart’s follow up comment including his intentional dig, “I don’t think many blue hairs watch the NFL if we’re being honest,” I could not keep my mouth shut anymore.

Here’s the deal. They feel completely comfortable sharing their opinion. They put it out there for the world to see. Dart even doubled down when asked about it. So I’m going to do the same thing.

Because if they get to speak, so do I. And so do you.

So here are my thoughts. Because this isn’t just another presidency.

Jaxson and Boomer, you guys go out of your way to support and protect a self-absorbed convicted felon and sexual assailant who also happen to be an authoritarian loser. That’s your right. Enjoy the ride.

But for the rest of us, it stopped long ago.

We’re not looking away. We’re not pretending we don’t see and hear what’s going on. We’re going to stand tall. We’re going to be loud. And we’re going to do the right thing, every single time.

Hopefully. Eventually. Someday. So will you.
